Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Stevens.
Hi Julia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started Active Nutrition as a grad student looking to do some side work, and it has slowly evolved into my full-time job that I am so passionate about!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are always struggles, the latest being covid, but thankfully I was already seeing clients about 50% virtually, so I just had to switch my group classes and the rest of my clients over to a virtual telehealth platform. Being flexible is something that I really work on with my clients and their food decisions, so I just had to practice what I preach and figure it out!
As you know, we’re big fans of Active Nutrition LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
My business is all about long-term health and preventive care. My primary focus is on weight loss, but with that comes many chronic diseases that I also help to manage like prediabetes, high cholesterol, or sleep apnea, to name a few. I offer many different options for weight loss and customize each person’s plan as much as possible. We are all different people, so what works for one person won’t necessarily work for the next. So, I offer everything from a medically supervised program, to one-on-one coaching, to long-term support groups, I can really create a program that fits everyone! Not only that, but everything that I teach as a dietitian is evidence-based and rooted in science. No room for fad diets or crazy teas, just real, evidence-based strategies that work!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I LOVE the Farmington Farmers Market and volunteer there frequently! I help run the kids program called POP! Club which teaches kids about where their food comes from. We encourage them to try a new veggie every time they come with free tastings from us. We also offer them activities to try and different ways for them to meet the farmers and get involved. I also provide recipes for the market. It’s a great place, and the downtown area is a true gem!
