Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Bandi.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My friend Blaize and I had always wanted a cabin. Every summer we’d go camping with friends and family, and the idea of having a place to escape — somewhere peaceful and relaxing where you could really slow down — was always so appealing. We figured if we ever bought one, we could rent it out when we weren’t using it to help cover some costs.
Then we took a trip to Iceland and stayed in an incredible cabin that made us want one even more. That’s when we really started thinking about it and looking for a place of our own. Over time, the idea evolved, and we decided to build our own cabins — more as an investment we could share with others than a getaway just for ourselves.
Building close to home meant we could make sure every guest had a great experience and that everything ran smoothly. We’ve always wanted Hidden Acres to feel more like an experience than just a stay — a place where people can slow down, breathe, and feel completely at ease.
We thought about the things that make travel great — whether it’s a really nice hotel where they remember your name or a lake house where you forget all about the long drive the moment you drop your bags inside. Every detail here was intentional. The bedrooms are on opposite ends so everyone has privacy, and the windows face the woods so you can hear the trees at night.
We leave a small welcome gift — some snacks, our favorite beer, and sparkling water — so you don’t have to run to the store before you start feeling like you’re on vacation. Kind of like a hotel minibar, but better. There are a few ways to make coffee, and we always make sure there’s plenty in case you didn’t bring your own. That first cup on the porch before the world wakes up is pretty great.
We wanted it to feel personal — like a place created by people who genuinely care that you’re comfortable, rested, and totally relaxed.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s gone really well. We tried to stay optimistic but realistic going into it, so we set reasonable expectations — and so far, it’s exceeded them. Of course, having the cabins built locally took longer and cost more than we hoped, but that’s to be expected.
We’ve been very fortunate. They started renting really well right away, we’ve had great guests, and a lot of people have already come back for return stays.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My friend and business partner, Blaize, runs a window cleaning company that he started when he was young and has spent years growing.
I worked in customer service and hospitality when I was younger, and for years I’ve worked in interior design. I loved designing the cabins from the ground up — and now I enjoy constantly making sure they’re perfect for our guests.
We both keep a close eye on reservations and cabin maintenance. It’s important to us that nothing gets overlooked.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
It’s always been about exploring and escaping the norm. When I was really young, we lived in Montana for a few years, so we’d go camping in the mountains there. Later, my brother lived in the Dominican Republic for several years, so that’s where we’d go on winter vacations. And a family friend had an off-grid cabin in the Upper Peninsula where we’d go to unwind.
I’ve always loved experiencing new places with the people I care about, but there’s something special about having one place that means so much — the kind of place everyone wants to go back to together.
