Check Out Kimberly Dedyne’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Dedyne.

Hi Kimberly, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I am Kimberly Dedyne (Rhymes with Divine)! I am a creative and a creator, I have always been ever since I could remember. I love to create things that make people feel and experience positive emotions. Creating is my stress reliever. I just zone out and I will paint, write, create whatever comes to mind. At the top of 2014, I started to work on all of my wedding decorations for my husband and I’s wedding that was coming up in 2015. I collected, painted, and glittered soooo many wine bottles that year! I loved every minute of it! I would come home from work and decompress by creating decorations. I LOVED creating the decor so much I thought, if I could, I would do this as a career! In the fall of 2014, I began my career in the mental health field as a Mental Health Worker at a psychiatry hospital I was also going to school at Central Michigan University Majoring in Psychology… One of my co-workers would sing to me “It’s Kimistry (Chemistry)! Kimistry is here, Kimistry forever!” We would laugh and say our “Hey what’s ups” for the beginning of the shift and go about our day. He would sing this EVERY SINGLE DAY he saw me! I told him “You know, I don’t know why that is sticking with me but it is and I’m going to use that name one day!” Time went on and I had another co-worker turned friend, that would always have conversations about knowing that we are meant to do more than just the norm and how we were really destined for greatness. We both were similar in what we were studying in school and we were even at the same university and didn’t know. It was an instant connection. I would talk to her frequently about our wedding plans and how I created all the decor for the event. Somehow, we ended up on the conversation of event decorating and planning. That is when my mind clicked! I thought I can make a business out of something I loved to do, creating decor. My friend and I talked about it so much so that summer of 2015 we went down to the courthouse together and registered DBAs for our business names. Pure KIMistry was officially born that summer in 2015. I began to do baby showers, bridal showers, and kids birthday events. I was even asked to do a wedding, in which I put together my first contract. I was excited! As I started taking the business aspect more serious with implementing the contract, people would ask me about doing their events but would not sign with me. I began to get discouraged and eventually got irritated with the business part that I felt like I had lost the creativity part of me. I couldn’t even look at the name Pure KIMistry for a long time. Jump to May of 2020, I ultimately got fed up because I wasn’t walking in my purpose of helping others and bringing people joy. I was supposed to be doing more and that feeling had ignited inside me again. I was irritated that I felt like I was not pouring my heart out and I was being selfish with my creative flow. I started listening to a podcast that was discussing opening event centers and making candles and boom it hit me. I love candles, let me research how to make them. I went on amazon, bought my first candle kit, and here I am today, making hand-poured candles, wax melts, and many other products. My business Pure KIMistry is all about igniting special memories and cultivating connections with every product or service by creating unique bonds through experiences. Since restarting my business I have also become an Author with my first book, Reaction of Grace: Journey to my Butterfly Exodus. So, I’m not only an entrepreneur, I’m an infopreneur. Everything that I create, I create purely from my heart and I truly hope and pray everyone feels and experiences that!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
ABSOLUTLEY NOT! NOPE! lol It has not been smooth at all! When I started, I knew I had vision and I knew what I wanted my business to look like, but I just didn’t have the blueprint of how to get there. I had to overcome fear of doing what is not the norm. The only thing I knew was to go to college and get a great career. When I realized that the career, I thought I wanted just wasn’t for me, I had to choose another way. I began to take steps in my business but I was unsure of where to go because I couldn’t see the path right in front of me. I would start to build my business but stop because I felt stuck. I am very much the creative mind but was nowhere near the business mind. I could only see the end result. God sent me many different people with completely different skill sets that I was able to learn from. They have all helped me get to where I need to be and I am still learning. I was not business-minded at all and I had to get there. I only initially cared about the people but as any smart business person, you have to shift your mindset and think about all aspects of business, not just the people. I had to learn and understand that I am worthy of people purchasing from me and that I am completely qualified to provide the services and products that I provide. I had to believe in me and that’s not easy for everyone, but it is required! I’m so grateful for my husband who held me down through the good and the bad. He is constantly supporting me through every high and every low. It makes a difference to have that constant support. On the days where I thought I just might give up; he’d pop up hyping me up telling me I couldn’t quit. It’s only a matter of time before I go to the next level. I am NEVER giving up!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am first and foremost a creative. I see, hear and experience things differently in the most amazing way. My business, Pure KIMistry is all about igniting special memories and cultivating connections with every product or service by creating unique bonds through experiences. I create unique hand-poured candles, wax melts, room sprays, Books, subscription boxes, and many other products soon to come. My business is also evolving. Since restarting my business, I have also become an Author with my first book titled: Reaction of Grace: Journey to my Butterfly Exodus. In my book, I discuss being someone that used to be quiet and was afraid to use my voice and speak up. I talk about my journey of going with the status quo to jumping out of that line and into my own lane. Since jumping into my own lane I have also curated and founded a women’s organization called: Dope Divine Women (formally Dope as Women). I created this organization for women that are like me that are walking their own unique purposed path. We are stronger together and we deserve to have a seat at a unique table to help build each other up. I have created a subscription box for D.D.W. that women can enjoy and feel connected in the comfort of their own homes. Not only am I an entrepreneur, but I am also an infopreneur. I will be writing and creating many other books, journals, and services that will come along to Pure KIMistry. I have decided to live transparently about my journey of freedom to get “here”, not just in business but transparent about my life in general.

I am most proud of not giving up on Pure KIMistry. Back in the day, I would have just went with the flow to push through school to become a Psychology. I knew I would not have been happy if I continued on that route, that career would not have fed my soul or my purpose and I know I would have experienced burnout. I am right where I am supposed to be. I was born set apart, I feel and know that I was born to be different to have that certain spark that the customers that are assigned to me are supposed to receive. I create from my heart and my customers will receive a piece of my heart whenever they purchase from me. I truly hope and pray everyone feels and experiences that! God has so much more in store for me and my business, I’m just getting started!
