Check Out Kevin Johnston’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Johnston.

Hi Kevin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I’m blessed with great fishing pals,  my dad Scott and his dad Bill. Both taught me there’s a great life via fishing.

I started fishing at age 2 catching bullheads from the Mississippi backwaters in Sabula Iowa. I caught bluegill from  farm ponds and drainage basins in eastern Iowa.

I fished for bass in Virginia and Kentucky.

I kept fishing through college and while working manufacturing.   After 40 years of fishing weekends  I figured being a charter captain sharing the fun of fishing is something I’d like to do.

I got my United States Coast Guard license, asked my sister-in-law Mary Alore to build a website, modified my boat to meet the Michigan Department of Natural Resources requirements, and poof! I’m taking people fishing.

Now I take clients for their trip of a lifetime AND I have fun

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?

Differentiating myself from the other captains.

Insecurities of leaving a good-paying engineering job.

Documenting 700 + trips on the Great Lakes for my 25 Ton Master Near Coastal license.

Passing the USCG test after 9 days of all-day classes at age 58.

Keeping up with the paperwork!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Every client smiles naturally when they’re fishing!

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
