Check Out Damian Paxton’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Damian Paxton.

Hi Damian, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I created Burning Flesh Pyrography to use as a catalyst to explore my own abilities and challenge myself from an artistic standpoint. Wood burning became my preferred medium by way of two personal interests: tattoos and western culture. Since creating this platform, I’ve since expanded my horizons beyond what I’d previously imagined possible for me. I now work with wood, acrylic paintings, sketches, flash art, and most recently and by far the most challenging, glass etching.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Everything but smooth. I’ve been pulled away from my process and faced with many struggles, both business and personal life oriented. All ranging from loss of income, lay offs from day jobs, struggles with addiction and sobriety, having full custody, down to simple equipment malfunctions. There was even a time where I’d bought out every piece of wood sold in art supply stores in Genesee county. That’s how you know you’ve got something in your mind that’s worth pursuing; everything seems to get in its way.

Wood burning, traditional tattoo artwork, glass etching, painting, just to name the main course.

I’ll do almost anything I’m commissioned to do if I think I can handle it.

What matters most to you? Why?
My son, myself, my people and my art.
