Check Out Ashley D’Orazio’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley D’Orazio.

Hi Ashley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Like many, my love for photography began when I had my first child. I wanted to document our days with beautiful photos. So, I bought my first DSLR camera and began snapping away. However, I quickly realized that having a nice camera does not mean you will capture beautiful photos. The perfectionist in me became obsessed with getting better. As I continued practicing and learning, my skills continued improving. It was at this point that people started asking me to take photos of their families, then those people told their family and friends about me, and by word of mouth, I began capturing more and more. That was almost 7 years ago now, and what began as a desire to capture my own child growing up has turned into a full-fledged small business and a career that I love and never could have imagined!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say that my journey has been a pretty smooth one. The biggest bumps in the road for me have revolved around my own self-doubt and “imposter syndrome” as I was learning. I am my own worst critic, and I never feel fully satisfied with my work… Over time, I have come to accept this as a good trait. I’m always striving to do better, and I never stop learning.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Michigan wedding and family photographer. I am known for capturing fresh, colorful, and timeless images while giving my clients a comfortable experience! I feel like what sets me apart from others is that I take a true interest in my clients’ lives. This is so much more than a business transaction for me. By the time our session is over, most people who work with me end up feeling more like friends. I love following my clients as they journey through life. I have seen (and photographed) maternity photos for people whose weddings I photographed… I’ve had the honor of watching families grow from a couple to a family of 3, and then again to a family of 4, and so on… there is nothing more gratifying than witnessing and capturing their stories.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My number one supporter would be my husband, Aldo. We have known each other since middle school – he has been there for me through nearly every stage of life, and has an unwavering dedication to our family’s success and happiness. I’m really blessed to be able to say that my whole family has been very supportive. My Mom and Dad have always encouraged me to pursue my dreams, whatever they may be, my cousins were my first test subjects as I was learning, my mother-in-law shares every post I make, my sister listens to me talk about photography nonstop, my grandma tells anyone who will listen about her talented granddaughter. The list goes on and on, and I am truly thankful.

And I can’t possibly talk about supporters without mentioning the amazing community of photographer friends I have made. Without them, I truly don’t know that I would have made it to where I am in this business.
