Check Out Lisa Hoeve’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Hoeve.

Hi Lisa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After becoming a foster family in 2013, we learned that many children will enter care with nothing or items in a trash bag. This reality led us to create Hope Pkgs in 2015. With the community’s love and support, we surpassed our goal of supporting 70 children from one private local agency. Instead, we’ve been able to serve more than 5000 children in 71 Michigan counties.

We supply the agencies with 1st night bags which are new backpacks with new items such as PJs, socks, underwear, blankets, toiletries, diapers, wipes and more depending on the age of the child.

The agencies then give them to the children when entering care. Together we assist preemies to teens, so all sizes are available.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
As with any business or nonprofit, there is a learning curve. Because of the circle of support, we’ve had great mentors to call upon.

With our growth happening so fast, we desperately needed more space. Thankfully we secured space and went from about 300 square feet to 1600 feet.

Also, with all the amazing donations it was hard to keep up. About 2 months ago, Hope Pkgs has been blessed with ladies that will come and volunteer their time sorting and organizing our donations.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My husband and I are a real estate team, Hoeve Homes of Coldwell Bank. We truly enjoy helping people buy and sell real estate.

Many in our community know they can call me with foster care questions or how to connect with various nonprofits. I’m always happy help make those connections and be of support.

Our family is fairly large and unique. Most likely we won’t be empty nesters soon like most of our friends but we are fine with that. We understand that every child deserves a safe and loving home. Our family is open to providing such a place.

What does success mean to you?
For the most part, helping the world be a better place. If I can plant some good seeds to help others grow closer to their purpose and point them toward Jesus, that’s what I’d call success.
