Check Out Richard McKesson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard McKesson. 

Hi Richard, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It started with a school called Paul Robeson Academy. That institution showed me the beautiful of our heritage. It gave me pride in knowing who I am where I came from. For our eight-grade trip, they sent us to Ghana and Synagogue Nigeria. When I tell, I had an awakening of a lifetime. To go to a school where they teach about Africa. I mean, every class was named after a country in Africa. So, to go there, feel the air hug your skin. The earth embracing your presence. It was just welcome. We stayed in the village were families open their homes to us. Eating and living as one family. So, after the trip I did what any kid does go back to living my life, not fully realizing what a blessing I truly experienced as a young black kid from East side of Detroit. Not knowing that trip would trigger a passion in me. 

To build a Brand that would inspire a change in the Urban community. Heritage Elite is an Afro-centric clothing brand inspired by tribal symbols from Ghana. I adapted these messages as principles for my brand. 

Strength- Strengthen the mind as well as the body through proper eating habits exercise meditation, and mental therapy. We can obtain longevity and a happier healthy life span. 

Faithfulness -being devoted to God and yourself, loving and embracing you. Being faithful to family, friends, and the innocent. Being faithful to those who are faithful to you. 

Excellence -living life as a mean of being GREAT, recognizing the power we have individually but embracing the power we have collectively. 

Vigilance- walking your purpose steadfast, never let anyone keep you off your path, understanding that life has hardships, but it’s through those hardships we find our purpose. 

These is the message of my Brand! 

I will show them the beautiful and Pride to our community. To make a company that will give back to the community. That will take the money invested by its people and build them an opportunity. Programs to help cultivate young minds to help end literacy a safe place to be a kid to receive touring & counseling. An environment where they can learn about who there are, a place where they can tap into their natural God-giving abilities. 

So, know that I’m not building this for me. I’m building this so that our people will continue to have a foot in this in this Race. I am open to network with people who are interested and helping me get this off the ground. “It takes a village to save the community.”

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Well, I know personally my life hasn’t been a smooth selling. I know I definitely had some ups and downs to deal with, some bouncebacks, hard-hitting deaths. I just kept moving, adjusting, and staying vigilant. Especially when it comes to starting this business. This been even harder because it’s a dream that you’re trying to get people to invest in even though it’s a positive one. And then, especially with me personally, I’m typically not on social media, so me marketing myself and my business has definitely been an obstacle. But luckily, I have found friends, family, and loved ones who have been very supportive and my launching of the business and helping me market it and getting comfortable in front of the camera. 

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As right now my merchandise is solo promotion the principles of the company. I want the people to what they are wearing before I get into the depths of the creative wear I have coming. 

What matters most to you? Why?
Nothing is more important than family and building a legacy to past on. Giving future generations a strong platform in which they can thrive. There is nothing more important than cultivating the young minds of tomorrow.
