Today we’d like to introduce you to Darren Paltrowitz.
Hi Darren, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
As a teenager, I did not have the money or driver’s license to catch all the concerts I wanted, nor all of the albums I wanted to hear. I lucked into an internship with a local newspaper when I was 16 and began writing for it. I ultimately started interviewing performers and then also contributing to other outlets, both print and online. I also started interning within the music business as a teenager, slowly working my way up within the artist management field. 20-something years later, I am still doing all of that and more.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am not the sort of person who believes in “happily ever after.” So even if I accomplish a goal, I am always looking towards what’s next, how I can do better, and so forth. I find the only constant over time to be change. The technology and tools change, for starters. For example, 10 years ago in 2012, how many of us were regularly working remotely, using video conferencing software more days than not, and/or looking to streaming services for most of our entertainment? So whatever we are doing now in 2022, it could potentially be a lot different than what we are doing in 2032.
But most importantly, every worthwhile job or project has its challenges. So be wary of the person talking about the “smooth road.” And hopefully, you can apply what you learned from previous jobs and/or projects to all future jobs and/or projects.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I essentially have 3 gigs which occasionally overlap:
– (Licensed) Private Investigator
– Writer / Editor / Host / Author
– Entertainment Consultant
Most of my professional time and effort goes to my work as an Investigator. It is a field which requires a lot more creativity than one would think.
As a writer, editor and host, I currently publish between 5 and 10 articles a week on average, most of which related to interviews I do, some of that related to unboxing videos my wife and Melissa and I do under the name “Paltrobox.” A lot of that interview content also gets utilized for my weekly TV show, “Paltrocast With Darren Paltrowitz,” which airs weekly on 40+ TV stations. Some of that recent work is going to show up in my forthcoming book about Van Halen’s David Lee Roth, “DLR Book,” which is slated for release via Backbeat Books in 2023, and ties in with a second podcast I co-host called “The DLR Cast.”
My work as an Entertainment Consultant goes back to when I was a teenager interning for rock bands. I still get hired to consult for artists and touring shows.
All in all, I like to keep busy with a variety of projects.
What do you think about happiness?
A legendary New York radio host once said, “happiness is having someone to love, something to do, and something to look forward to.” To me, that is pretty spot-on.
