Rising Stars: Meet Heather Elzinga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Elzinga.

Hi Heather, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I was interested in all of the cake decorating shows growing up, and it was something I wanted to try myself. Honoring my late grandmother, my first attempt was a 3-tier fondant-covered cake, and I haven’t stopped since. Fast forward 10 years, I have created a name for myself, and friends, family, and locals know who to call when they are looking for a great cake.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Cake decorating does not always equal perfection, and that may be one thing that has been a struggle for me. Each recipe, order, design comes with its own challenges, and you learn the best techniques to cover it all up. You eat with your eyes first, and the decorating aspect has always been my favorite part of finishing the cake and creating something beautiful.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in creating memorable cakes for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, and everything in between. I can do buttercream, fondant, tiered cakes, dessert bars, and the possibilities are endless. I love working with each client, learning their story, and helping turn their event into something magical. In our area, cake decorators are a limited resource, and I’m so thankful for the word-of-mouth referrals that I receive daily.

What does success mean to you?
I define success as achieving happiness. When I create a special cake and deliver to clients, their pure joy makes everything worth it. They may not know the struggles it took to create a beautiful cake, but they are over the moon with receiving that cake from me. I started with family as my inspiration, and now I continue daily with my own family, and I want to be successful for them.
