Today we’d like to introduce you to Maranda Ruegsegger.
Hi Maranda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was to host a cousin’s sleepover for my niece and nephew. They were traveling from France to Michigan to enjoy a summer with our family. This was the first sleepover for my children and their cousins, so of course, I wanted it to be one to remember. I’ve always been a crafter or DIY, I love the creativity and challenge, so of course, this sleepover had to be something over the top.
Originally, I wanted to go camping, however, I thought maybe that might be too much for young kids. So, I made indoor-themed (A-frame) camping tents for each kid to camp out in; the kids loved it. When it was posted to social media all my friends where in awe. A few people reached out to me asking if they could barrow them for their children, so Little Dreamers was born! We started with a few themed sleepovers, but I couldn’t help myself by adding more.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Creating a business that has no background of existence wasn’t easy. We started planning our company in late 2016 and finally held our first party 2017. It took some time until people jumped on the concept and trusted our process, but once word spread it was a huge hit. We have learned so much along the way and continue to grow and add new rentals such as our outdoor bell tent, due to Covid. We wanted to still provide a safe, outdoor option to gather with limited guests. We have been reinventing the sleepover ever since.
Our bell tents now allow up-to-style theme glamping experiences, a lounge area, or even dining in the bell tent.
Other challenges that I face included running my business on top of my “real” job as a nuclear medicine technologist. My third child was born November 1, 2021, and I finally took the leap into full-time entrepreneurship and mom! Luckily, I have a huge support; my husband and children are always nearby to lend a hand and push me forward.
It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been fun. I finally realized the quote, you never work a day in your life if you love what you do can actually be true. So, I encourage anyone out there to pursue your dreams; it well worth the hard work!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
