Meet Shawna Breuhan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawna Breuhan.

Hi Shawna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Breutanicals began with a passion of plants. As a child, I loved picking and playing with leaves and flowers, making mud pies filled with dandelions and clover, trying to figure out ways to press flowers and make something nice. In adulthood, that passion was sparked when aromatherapy hit the scene, and from there, I felt inspired to create my own plant-based ‘all natural’ product line. After completing my Holistic Health Practitioner certification, I began working at a holistic wellness store in Oxford, MI. Once I felt more comfortable working with herbs and understanding what they had to offer, I formulated my first product! After years of hesitation and A LOT of encouragement from my husband, Breutanicals was officially launched in 2020.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Getting to the point of turning my passion into a business was not a smooth road. I had a great deal of self-doubt which led to years of procrastination. I did not want to just jump into something without feeling confident in what I was offering. Once I felt ready, I made the decision to move forward as a business, and the road has been a lot smoother!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Breutanicals offers herbal and aromatherapy-infused plant-based bath and body items. I originally began with formulating residue-free scalp soaps for my husband to use on his dreadlocked hair, expanding into body soaps. In my first year of business, I focused on soaps and herbal bath infusions. I have since expanded to aromatherapy blends, herbal infused facial and body oils, herbal infusion body care blends, and a variety of energetic-based herbal and aromatherapy offerings. I find myself as of lately, leaning more towards herbal-infused products using herbs grown and foraged here on our homestead.

A variety of Breutanicals offerings are available in several stores in the Metro-Detroit area, and I also attend pop-up fairs, shows, and festivals throughout the year.
