Rising Stars: Meet Bones Mohr

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bones Mohr.

Hi Bones, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I got to where I am today by burning myself out and working too hard for too long. I was doing something creative every day for 4-5 years straight, while working a full time job. I was dabbling in multiple mediums, then bringing them all together to create narratives that felt special to me. Along the way, people wanted to hire me for various projects so I did a lot of freelance until I took a full-time Creative Director position.

During that time, I was still working on side projects, constantly pushing my ability until a year ago when I got burnt out. I had to take a step back and not do much for a while. I don’t regret it; it got me to where I am today. I am incredibly confident in my capabilities but my point is to get where you want to be you will have to sacrifice at some point in some way or another.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The strongest steel is forged in the hottest fires. Unless you are incredibly lucky or talented nothing is easy, even if you are those, I still imagine it isn’t easy. Nothing in life worth anything is easy. So no, it has not been a smooth road, and there have been struggles at every turn. What you have to do is know the struggles will make you better and understand how to make them work in your benefit. Life is perspective, and it’s best viewed at the end, but until then you have to know that if you have a good heart and are putting in the work the universe will respond in kind even if at the moment it doesn’t seem like it.

My struggles aren’t unique. Everyone on earth has similar struggles. My approach to dealing with them is what sets me apart. Yes, you can’t “grind” through all your problems, but you can zoom out and see the bigger picture. Strategize patiently while you rest. When you’re ready to take on your struggles understand you are not alone and that the universe conspires to give you what you want. It won’t be easy, but the motivation and spark you need can be found in everything. You have to have the awareness to look, in nature, in friends, in spirituality, in yourself.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in light and dark. It’s been a key theme throughout my personal life and throughout my art. What I create like many artists is just a reflection of my environment and what I’m going through. While I have my corporate work, it’s truly the passion projects I do that bring me the most fulfillment. That is my domain that is where I am unbeaten that is where I’m me. My brain is a conceptual mastermind. For better or worse, I can conceptualize anything and everything, down to the smallest detail. I am only limited my actual creative capabilities. In the future, I really wish to have more resources and be surrounded by people much more talented than me to create worlds and narratives that I feel are timeless and impactful.

I’m most proud of the Cell Ops work I’ve done with a small team. It’s a multifaceted approach to bring my world to life. It’s a small scale, but anyone who looks at what we’ve done can see we give a f*** about what we do. It’s incredibly rewarding to work with friends; if it were about the money, we would have stopped a while ago, but it’s for the love of creating. I’m proud that people trust in my vision and that there are people out there that still care about doing intentional work.

I think what sets me apart from others is how far down the rabbit hole I go. When I talk world building, I’m really talking WORLD BUILDING. Down to the grains of dust on a world and how that impacts the population that inhabits it, how that population has to live because of it, how that influences their decisions, their look, their community, their agriculture, their future generations. All from a grain of dust. My imagination is limitless I hope to put it to use as best as I can.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Ethan Garcia Skylar Healy

Nick Kurtz

Are the main contributors to Cell Ops. Hands-on, entertaining my ideas, and doing anything possible to help. Specifically audio engineer, director of photography, producer, assistant director, to name a few we all wear multiple hats.

Cell Ops reaches further and has many members that help and support us. I hope in the future to get them more involved; we just need more resources; I fund everything we do myself. At some point, we gotta go bigger; I remain patient and strategizing. Those that support us with their whole heart I see you, and I can’t thank you enough. I promise in the future, this will become everything you imagine it can be.
