Rising Stars: Meet Ricky Ruff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricky Ruff. 

Hi Ricky, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Since I can remember, I’ve always had an interest in art and all things creative. As a child, I used to draw a lot of Saturday morning cartoons and characters from late-night anime shows. As I got into middle school, I began to play around with photoshop and graphic design as a whole. From then until the end of high school, I began doing various design projects for friends and family. All of this ultimately led me to a career in the entertainment industry as a freelance graphic designer & illustrator. 

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
All in all, it’s been a journey over the past 12 years. From losing passion for certain types of creative projects due to burnout and client issues. To finding inspiration in new areas that now require you to relearn everything you once thought you knew. But through all the ups and downs, doing what I love has allowed me to endure through every obstacle and challenge. 

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I design and craft clothing, packaging, branding identity, and other visual assets for various businesses including my own personal brands. I mainly specialize in streetwear design, digital illustrations, and brand development/creative direction. What I am most proud of is my own personal growth as a creative entrepreneur and businessman. I believe what sets me apart from others is my understanding of the balancing act required between being creative and running a business at the same time. Most artists tend to just focus on their craft, while important business needs such as marketing & sales are often only an afterthought.
