Today we’d like to introduce you to Melvin Bailey.
Hi Melvin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey began about 7 years ago listening to a negative story about millennials. I felt instantly irritated about the stereotypes that were plaguing our generation by those unwilling to seek understanding from our generation of millennials. I then started realizing more so that the news and other journalism outlets were breading false narratives of who were as a culture and a generation. My goal was to bring back the authenticity of journalism back to being true while bringing people together through film art and a fresh perspective of journalism from the “millennial perspective.”
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road building this; being an African American male in America, I have faced many adversities. Being an African American millennial has made that aspect that more difficult. My dream is to see not only African Americans thrive but to see our millennial generation succeed by proving negative narratives wrong and being a new light to millennials. My vision to create a “creative collaboration hub” for artists around the metro Detroit area has taken some time to build, showing individuals in the millennial crowd that there’s a way to change things and make a noise that everyone can hear is hard to get others to believe when so much negative energy is out about us. But slowly and surely, progress has been made.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My film company’s name is Cloud Iris Film Park L.L.C. – my film company does it all, from podcasting to film production. The magical creation made through this was the “Creative x Collaboration x Hub” This hub is a place for creatives in the metro Detroit area to come together and create art together. The idea is to make a powerhouse of collaborative efforts to grow the city of Detroit and the Metro Detroit area to bring forth an army of millennials growing and creating together.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
That life is a journey, and your goals must be worked at little by little each day in order to truly see it come to fruition.
