Daily Inspiration: Meet DJ Carter

Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Carter.  

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Learned how to Dj around the age of 4/5. Did my first event (a wedding) at the age of 7. From there it was middle school dances and high school parties as I aged until I got into high school and started throwing house parties with my friends. Started djing in the nightlife thanks to DJ Slick B at Annex nightclub, and smoke (@kiingsmoke41 IG) and from there it just kept getting bigger. 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No real struggles, if I had to say one, it would be building my own name outside of Slick’s shadow for the people who thought I was his apprentice. Not knowing I was actually helping build his brand while he did the same with mine. 

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a nightlife, traveling DJ. I am a part of majority of the biggest parties to come through downtown Detroit. I am most proud of my growth and being able to see where I came from and where I am now. What sets me apart from others is something you would just have to see in action. 

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love everything about Detroit. I grew up here. And after traveling to different cities to Dj (which I love and enjoy), I still love our vibe better. 

Related to my job the only thing I would say I don’t like is that everything has to be related to the streets. It’s enough violence here as it is.
