Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Stasik.
Hi Jessica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
For as long as I can remember I have had a camera in my hand. While I was focused on music for a while, the camera was still always with me. In high school marching band, I would photograph the other students. At Oakland University, where I studied Music Education, I would photograph the other studios and later was hired to capture the concerts, operas, and events.
My business was created in 2012 when I received my first DSLR as a gift from my now husband. A few months later, I captured our first wedding with Megan + Brad Perry giving me the trust and honor to take on their big day.
From there I started slowly, working part-time photographer and full-time college student. I would take on family sessions, senior photos, maternity, boudoir, engagements, and weddings.
In 2017 I decided I no longer wanted to be a teacher. While I loved teaching, I realized it wasn’t where my passion was.
From there I became a full-time photographer with the help and support of my husband.
Together we have captured multiple weddings, families, engagements, and so many more amazing moments in people’s lives. We have received over one hundred 5-star reviews, 2 “Top 5 Finalists” in Detroit’s “Vote 4 the Best”, 2 couples’ Choice Awards from WeddingWire, and the MTD award from Oakland University.
One of the greatest achievements of all is knowing that 2022 marks our 10-year anniversary of capturing these beautiful moments of life because in the end, we’re here to tell your story – one photo at a time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road, but we have pursued through it all. The hardest is when I’m working full time and now also a full-time stay-at-home mom, and my husband is the main consistent income.
This was especially difficult when Covid hit. Weddings were canceled and families wanted to quarantine, which I fully understood and we did the best we could ourselves.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a photographer that specializes in people and the events that make our lives worth living. Whether it’s senior photos, maternity, newborns, weddings, or families. I love being there to capture it all.
I am known for my 5-star service. From the moment we get in touch, I am there to help you with whatever you need. Are you getting some headshots done and you’re not sure what to wear? Shoot me a text of your options, and I’ll explain why I think which option is best.
Planning your wedding and you’re unsure of the timeline? Send me a draft, and I’ll help you figure out what works best for your family and guests.
Weddings in general, I end up wearing multiple hats. Between photographing, keeping time, quick therapy sessions, hyping you up, and making sure you’re hydrated and ready for the big day – I’m there!
What I am most proud of is how far I’ve come as a business. When I can look back and see how much I’ve grown as a person, a photographer, and a businesswoman, I know I’m doing something right!
The best part is now that when my son (or any future children) are growing up, they’ll see that their mom is following her dreams, and it’s something that they can do too!
What were you like growing up?
I was all about the arts growing up! I took all the music, choir, and drama classes through middle and high school. When I graduated, I attended Oakland University for Music Education. However, I also captured all the moments along the way! Always having my kodak camera, point and shoot, or eventually my DSLR by my side to tell my story and help create everlasting memories for me to look back on.
Personality-wise, I’ve always been more on the quiet side. Never the “popular” person, I always had a tight group of friends. We played plenty of video games, explored the woods, rode our bikes to the nearby gas stations, and stayed up watching scary movies.
While I’m still on the quiet side while with friends or at home, I have no problem opening up to be the hype-man that you need while being photographed! Most people who are close to me and see me work say that I turn into a completely different person!
