Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Tamone Wood.
Hi Dr. Wood, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started cutting hair as a way to make money while I was pursuing my love for baseball. My dream of playing at the D1AA level at Alabama State turned into a nightmare. I took an apprenticeship at University Barber and Style Shop, under a master barber named LeRoy Huffman located in Montgomery, Alabama. This is where I received my practical and theory training to become a licensed barber. The state of Alabama deregulated the field and barber law were no longer in place for the state. I was unsatisfied with the changes so I returned to Detroit, Michigan to continue my education. I then attended Michigan Barber School to further my education. After passing the state board exam, I returned to Alabama to enter the instructor program at The Hair Academy. I was under master barber/ cos instructor, Dr. Trena Gamble DPC/ DPB. Then after a life-changing event, I passed the state board again and became a master instructor in the state of Alabama. Thanks to a mentor, Dr. Desmond Dunbar DPB, I became an instructor for the second time in the state of Michigan. Starting to become one of the great I pushed harder on perfecting my skill set and bringing techniques that no one in the industry was using. Being different in an over-saturated market in the number one hair capital is a difficult task so I had to dig deep. I reached out to two of my mentors for guidance the first one’s name is Dr. William McNeely DPB, master barber/ instructor and national educator, and Morono Hodge of advanced barber systems. I took Advanced classes that changed my life as a professional barber. I am grateful for these two great men of service; Mr. Matthew Bryant Master Barber Instructor. Thank you for all the study sessions you are a true gentleman of this great industry. Lord David Moore salute to you OG you are everything to me, thank you for your knowledge, wisdom, and understanding, I am nothing without you. You’re a legend, none greater. I have a surprise coming in the near future. I am writing my first book, but I am not going to spoil it, it will be a game-changer. So, stay tuned, God bless. I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I lost everything to gain knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. I’m a true believer that you pay for that, iron sharpens iron. When people don’t believe in your dreams, they can stunt your growth. I learned that the three uglies are jealousy envy and greed. They had to be replaced with wanting for your brother what you want for yourself. I had people around me that didn’t share those core values so eliminating people you call family was the biggest challenge for me. The best part is the that hard work, service, and a good team came to bring balance back to my everyday practice. Always push yourself to be a leader because with leadership comes great responsibility. The path to make people around you better, that is what a leader does.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Lessons from Crisis
The Covid- 19 crisis showed me some interesting and important lessons in life. The pandemic was tragic but the reality is that it gave me the structure to reinvent myself. My goal was to bring health, wellness, and self-care to my barber brand. I realize that I haven’t been eating wrong for 48 years of my life. What you put in your body can affect everything that you do. I started eating cleaner, cutting back on my red meat intake, as well as adding alkaline water and sea moss lemonade that is an all-natural product with cold-pressed ingredients. Free game owned by my business partner and Barber student Alexander M. Washington a.k.a. Fly Tonsors. The Free Game organic drink line helped me to lose 100 pounds. It contains sea moss, multivitamin, immune boost, and organic cane sugar along with a 9.5 pH alkaline water. It changed my life in so many ways, I am in the best shape of my life and I feel wonderful! The pandemic hit the state of Michigan hard we had to stop working in the Barber College. As well as the barbershop, with no means to make an income. I didn’t know how I was going to survive the answer is, reinvent yourself so I started with self to make people around me better, with leadership comes great responsibility. So, I made up my mind to build my barber brand. Thanks to the help of my Alabama State alumni Cecilee CC Johnson of HJK Concepts. Cee Cee turned Blendology Barber Systems LLC into reality. The next step was to advance my education as well as my advanced education. I started doing my research and found out about a program for educators to advance instruction. I entered a program to receive my doctoral degree in education with the science of barbering as my field of study. To add more fuel to an already lit fire I decided team up with my MBS alumni Gerod Sturgis, Master barber instructor and owner of Legacy Barber College in Adrian Michigan, and Dr. Desmond Dunbar DPB. of barber vision (SMP). The last member of this team-taught all of us everything we know is master barber/instructor Lord David Moore. I owe a lot to this pioneer of our great industry with over 60 years of experience, a legend, and an expert on all phases of hair. I called this group the Consortium A group of like-minded individuals with the purpose of getting positive plans into action. Our plan is to build Barbara colleges all over the nation with exciting innovation, techniques, and skill set, and knowledge of the science and professional barber styling. I push the bar even further by coming up with a system of products to help with chronic pain during everyday work practices. I teamed up with my cousin, Charles Jones Sr. To help create Taboo Treasures. An all-legal CBD topical line for help with chronic pain issues. This product is third-party tested for optimum options for pain issues. The last step was certified training by my mentor Dr. Desmond Dunbar in non-invasive services (SMP) microscope pigmentation, the latest innovation, and hair line replacements, and cosmetic teeth whitening for cosmetic healthy teeth.
