Meet Parnell Chestnut of Door Fourteen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Parnell Chestnut. 

Hi Parnell, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Door Fourteen was inspired by my daughter, Aaniyah Chestnut. In 2018 her and I were walking to breakfast and I asked her what was she supposed to do when she turned 18? At the time Aaniyah was 10 and her response was “Get a job and go to college”. From that moment I knew that I wanted to expand her options. I had to set an example that was never showed to me. Aaniyah’s mother and I were both presented with the same two common options growing up. going to school or getting a job. We both later realized that it came with many unexpected struggles that would affect us in the long run. Going to college has its pros and cons along with working a job. I wanted Aaniyah to know that she had the ability to create and build something that she would be in control of. And Door Fourteen was born. The “Door” represents opening doors for the youth that are different from what the society normal is such as getting a job and going to college. The “Fourteen” represents a good age we think kids are most influenced with their career path. This is why we are here to give them an example of how to believe in the investment of themselves. 

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In the beginning of starting our brand, Door fourteen we had to overcome some obstacles. Some of the struggles that we faced early on were tracking inventory, money and time management, and product delays. During the pandemic, we experienced shortages from our suppliers. This affected our ability to fulfill orders. With many being unsure of the duration of the pandemic we’ve had to plan strategically to ensure the best experience for our customers. 

As you know, we’re big fans of Door Fourteen. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Door fourteen is a Cleveland, Ohio-based social enterprise. Door Fourteen encourages and provides opportunities for individuals of all age groups to develop their full potential through services such as Life skills, financial literacy, and job preparation. However, Door Fourteen‘s main service line is selling apparel online through our E-commerce platform. DoorFourteens clothing line represents options and influences positivity in the community. The positive messages throughout the different designs are unique and uplifting. 

Through Door Fourteen we have encouraged and inspired the youth. Inspiring them to go after their dreams and reach their goals is something that Aaniyah and I both take pride in. 

What makes you happy?
Being a father and continuing to build our brand Doorfourteen with my daughter Aaniyah is something that brings joy into my life.
