Daily Inspiration: Meet Katie Romant

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Romant. 

Katie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
A busy mom of two, I envied fellow mothers who could create Pinterest-worthy arts and crafts with their children at the drop of a hat. I knew I wasn’t that mom. I didn’t have the time to prep and prepare all of these activities that you see all over social media, and I kept beating myself up about that. I knew I couldn’t be the only mom out there was trying to balance it all. In the fall of 2019, I created and launched TinkerTots Boxes, a monthly subscription box service that includes five hands-on activities for those ages three to six. The main goal of launching TinkerTots was to make life a little easier for moms. 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Less than a year into launching the business, the COVID-19 pandemic hit and I had no idea what was going to happen with the business. Families couldn’t be together; children were home from daycare/school and parents were working from home. 

Fortunately, we made it through the first year and continued to grow but not without challenges of supply chain issues and various shutdowns due to the pandemic. 

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
After graduating from Michigan State University, I started to work for a boutique executive recruiting firm in Chicago and was with the firm for eleven years. The last position I held with the firm was Client Services Director before launching TinkerTots Boxes in the fall of 2019. 

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I have learned throughout this journey is to believe in yourself and go for it. It’s not going to be easy and there will be many ups and downs along the way but you have to take that leap and believe in yourself. You never know what doors may open along the journey!
