Conversations with Nasirah Sahar Mitchell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nasirah Sahar Mitchell. 

Hi Nasirah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started Nasirah Sahar Collection in 2018. Before that time, I was helping my partner with his clothing brand (Pharaonic brand). I really enjoyed selecting styles and choosing ambassadors to represent the company. I began seeing a need for plus-size styles for the ladies. I am a true believer that women of all sizes should be represented. That is how Nasirah Sahar Collection was born. 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have to say, it has been pretty smooth on the business side of things. I modeled most of the styles and became the “face” of the brand. I initially wanted to find models however, being a new brand, I found it easier to do it myself. It kind of became overwhelming because I had to come up with different locations to shoot. I also became very critical of how I looked. Holding down a full-time job as a therapist and working the brand, left little time for other things that I enjoyed. It has definitely been a journey of balance and self-discovery. 

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Well, I wear many hats. On the business side of things, I am the creative behind Nasirah Sahar Collection, which is a clothing line under the Pharaonic brand. I specialize in plus-size high-end urban wear. I am known for my sense of style in the plus-size community. I am also a hip aficionado and DJ. I am proud of having the courage to step out on faith and follow through on my dreams. I have always been an introvert so; it has taken a lot to get here. What sets me apart, is that my work and my talents are set to my own standards. It is important to focus on your own vision.

I am always open to collaborating with other creatives! I have cross-promoted and collaborated with other brands in the past and currently.
