Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Williams.
Hi Brianna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Originally a stay-at-home mom, making organic clothing for my newborn, I blended my creative skills and sewing experience, bringing about a perfect marriage of two passions.
Thus, bringing life to Dcreated Boutique.
In 2011 I started an Etsy shop and then later opened a storefront on the Historic Avenue of Fashion in Detroit.
After 5 successful years, I decided to close my brick and mortar due to city construction. (2019)
Having a place to meet and see my customers is really important to me. I’ve built a great relationship with them and their children over the years.
I came up with a solution.
Dcreated Boutique was gonna go mobile!!!
In 2020 I purchased a beat-up enclosed trailer and renovated it.
It’s now a beautiful mobile boutique on wheels, that I use to travel the Midwest and bring Dcreated to the people to shop.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The struggle for me was work/home balance and of course funding.
Being a single mom with a little one at home requires a lot of juggling when you’re a maker, have a storefront to tend to, and an online business to run.
I can’t say I excelled at the task, but I made sure my daughter was there to see all the hard work that went into providing a stable life for her.
As far as funding, good old-fashioned saving and a supportive partner (welder/handyman) lol, has served well.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a seamstress, I try to merge nature and simple style together with my love of vintage fabric.
Each collection is built off of high-quality materials that have soft and thoughtful qualities matched with beautiful earth tones and timeless traits.
My favorite things to make, are rompers and bloomers! Baby rompers are just too darn cute!
I’ve recently learned how to sublimate my own fabric and make custom tees. It’s been a fun craft to learn and add to the lineup of products.
I take great pride in making each garment to be comfortable and meticulously source thoughtful materials that make dressing both effortless as well as memorable for babies and mamas.
The number one compliment given by customers is
” Oh, my goodness! The colors! I just love the color pallets”
What was your favorite childhood memory?
A fond memory of mine is my mom, teaching me how to sew.
