Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah Kramer.
Hi Savannah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Dearborn Heights, MI and was constantly split between wanting to be in the spotlight, modeling/ taking part in the fashion industry, and working with children and mental health. As I got older and college was on my mind, I chose to take the route of mental health and understanding people and their intricate lives, so I chose to study Psychology and Women, Gender, and Sexuality studies. As my school career progressed, I began working with children and their mental health, helping in areas of autism, depression, cyclic mood disorder, bipolar disorder, and more. It was an extremely eye-opening experience and I felt very fulfilled until I remembered how much I longed to work in modeling and behind the camera as well. I realized that in life, there are a million dreams to chase and a world of things to be explored. Life doesn’t stop at one career choice or one job or one skill. I ended up putting myself out there and working with photographers in the area, breaking out of my comfort zone. My shoots made it into a few magazines and from there, I’ve been advancing in modeling and learning the world of fashion and photography. I was able to fulfill both sides of my dream and now nanny full time with a loving family, work with mental health of children, and model and work at getting into more magazines!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been smooth! I struggle from time to time with putting myself out there in modeling and feeling as though I’m good enough to be on camera, but I continue to tell myself that there is only one of me and I bring something different, alongside everyone else bringing their own unique looks, abilities, and creative aspects. For working in mental health, sometimes I face burnout, and learning how to work with each individual person and their particular needs was challenging, but as I’ve grown and continue to learn each person, I broaden my knowledge and become more well versed in my career.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Focusing on my modeling, I currently work with many photographers around Grand Rapids and Detroit. I model in all categories from lifestyle to boudoir to anything completely off-the-wall to bring an artistic vision to life. I’m most proud of my ability to adapt to each photographer’s vision and portraying it in a way that acknowledges both their style and my style.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Adaptation and open-mindedness! You may not always understand an artist’s vision at first or be able to see the outcome before it happens, but going into each photoshoot with an open mind is extremely important in creating something beautiful.
