Meet Lavanya Gowda

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lavanya Gowda. 

Lavanya, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi! I am Lavanya Gowda, 37 years old, Known as @mummalavs on Instagram. I am a mom creator and create motherhood, parenting lifestyle and content on my blog. You can also find recommendations and reviews on places to visit with kids, restaurants to eat, and a good family handout place in and around Michigan and other places around the country too! 

After working in the IT industry for a few years, I am currently a stay-at-home mom of 2 kids, 3- and 9-year-old, and a wife to a loving and supporting man who is a techie by profession. We are an Indian family who moved to the US a decade ago and so you can find a lot of my content on Indian culture, festivals, Indian language, Bollywood on my blog. I love to share about my Indian roots & culture to my American friends over here! 

We are in Grand Rapids, Michigan from last 2 years and we love exploring this beautiful city and the neighborhood and create the content on the same. 

I starting blogging and creating content 2 years ago after my second baby was born. After 2 kids I felt I had gained so much experience about pregnancy, parenting, taking care of the newborn, breastfeeding, and many other parenting tips and suggestions that could be shared with others. I came across a friend who was a mom blogger on Instagram and she said it was the best platform to share & also learn so many things from other moms out there and that’s how I started my journey on Instagram. Yes, I did connect with other like-minded moms out there, made friends online, and could share my tips, suggestions, and everyday experiences on the platform without being judged! My family, extended family friends, and strangers started following me and slowly I built a small community around. I have been slowly growing from there and continue to grow and gained followers or friends I would like to call them instead. I started collaborating with a few brands for promoting their products and reviewing it for a small token of gift in exchange, it gave me a sense of happiness also it kept me connected to the world even though I was at home the whole day. I made friends with people all around the world! 

Coming to the content on my blog you can have a good laugh with the funny and entertaining videos I make on parenting, kids, and family issues. I am that mom next door who is available to help you and answer your questions on parenting, breastfeeding, pregnancy, and a lot more things. My kids love books, so I give recommendations on books, library, and tips on how to raise a good reader.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The journey of content creation, blogging, and being an Influencer is not easy as it may look by seeing the colourful Instagram pictures and videos, it takes a hard amount of time and lot of creative thinking which doesn’t get its payback. Sometime it’s so demotivating because you create a good content, put in all your effort and it hardly reaches anyone. The number of likes, shares or comments does affect you mentally. It can make you feel low and you will start doubting yourself and your skills. I have gone through this and still go through this when the content doesn’t do well or when people unfollow me. What gets me motivated is the other followers who believe in me and come back to my page to checkout for more content every day, I feel happy when it makes them laugh, entertained or they get some knowledge out of it. I so wish and hope people start considering content creation as an art and start valuing it and start appreciating it more because end of the day it is an art, it is creativity.
