Exploring Life & Business with Shanay Clark and Thea Parker of Serving A Purpose Homecare/Purpose Healthcare Training Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanay Clark and Thea Parker. Them and their team share their story with us below:

It was our first day of clinicals (we are both registered nurses) and Thea was waiting in the Beaumont hospital lobby fresh white uniform pressed to perfection and had been there early with coffee, while Shanay on the other hand came in running, ten minutes late disheveled, looking for where I was supposed to be. And at that moment a friendship was born.

In the midst of the program, Shanay got a job as an aide at a hospital and told Thea about how much better it was working as an aide in the hospital and encouraged her to apply at a job at Botsford hospital. She did and got the position. God was putting us in a certain plan without us even knowing it. We went on through nursing school, and Shanay graduated a few months before Thea. Shanay’s first nursing job? The same floor that she had encouraged Thea to apply a year before. Again, God building blocks. We worked together as friends and nurses and everything was going smoothly until one day at work Shanay said “let’s open a home care agency” and with this a new life was born.

We now have a home care agency, group home, and CNA school under our “Purpose” umbrella as we call it. Fear, doubt, perseverance, believing in ourselves, family, focus, and God has gotten us to where we are today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! We were both full-time working nurses, with two kids and husbands each. We doubted ourselves, made big money mistakes, took on too much at times, and didn’t focus at others. We delayed our moves because of fear and scared of doing what we dreamed of but letting others place doubt in our heads. We’ve started and stopped different business ideas. Everything is trial and error and just learning as we go.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Serving A Purpose Homecare (formally Purpose Home and Hospice Care) is our home care agency. Our first baby. We serve seniors and disabled adults in the comfort of their own home. Our mission and purpose is to provide relief to the families of the elderly and disabled. We strive to be the part that keeps mom and dad safe at home while also giving the family time at work, rest, vacation, or simple errands without worrying. What we want our readers and potential families to know is that we created this company with them in mind. We have been through the need of home care personally, so we know what you need and you’re looking for in an agency. We are also healthcare professionals that have experienced so many different scenarios and all of the things we have learned we teach our staff. We thoroughly enjoy and take pride in being there for the clients and families we serve.

Purpose Healthcare Training is a sister healthcare training company to Serving A Purpose Homecare. Thea takes her passion for teaching and pours it into the students that come through the training center. As we were both CNAs before becoming nurses, we understand how valuable our CNAs are and truly enjoy teaching them the basics of nursing and beyond.

As a staffing solution to the sister company, we training individuals to not only hire for the agency but to also go forward with working with hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare facilities.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Our city is so diverse and rich in culture. It’s all around us! Always something to do or experience. We are so proud of Detroit and the strides and improvements the city has made in the last few years
