Today we’d like to introduce you to Diop Shumake.
Hi Diop, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’m was born and raised in Detroit & Bloomfield Michigan. Went to Andover high-school and later was accepted to Morehouse College where I majored in International Relations. After leaving Morehouse in 2016 I took on an opportunity to grow commercial Cannabis in Santa Barbara, CA. While in California I helped cultivate 18,000 cannabis plants which required 20hr workdays. The workdays took a toll on me mentally and in an effort to save my mental health I found running. After moving back to Detroit in 2018 I founded Runner’s High 5k, LLC. A social impact organization educating athletes about the effects of cannabis through a run/walk. In November 2019 I launched my first official run at Runyon Canyon… Just last year Runners High 5k was hosted at Belle Isle Park where we had 115 runners #runforcannabis. We raised over 14k with help from our sponsors and attendees. Funds raised from this initiative help support my Cannabis Research Foundation, Kairos. @kairosresearch partnered with Dr. Gus from the University of Michigan to study the effects of Hemp & Nutritional Supplements for athletes in 2021.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been smooth. Some of my major battles were mental health (depression), imposter syndrome, and not knowing what my purpose was. I found all these things by dedicating my life to Christ and Running.

The Kairos Cannabis Research Foundation raises funds and awareness for institutions cannabis research programs and small business founders.
