Inspiring Conversations with Kaylie Eaves of Kaylie Eaves Horsemanship

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylie Eaves.

Hi Kaylie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been passionate about horses since I was a kid. But my dad did not like horses so when I turned 18, I got my own horse. I found a place to board her and she came to me unbroke and hardly handled by humans. So, I trained her myself and that’s when I knew I wanted to be a horse trainer. My whole childhood I read books on horses, rode with friends who had horses and family members who had horses. When I was a teenager, I started learning from a trainer named Phil Oaks and he helped me with most of my training of my horse. I worked for many different trainers until I had an awful experience working at a guest ranch in Tennessee. That’s when my aunt asked me to come work for her in her dental lab while going to school for business.

Horse training is the goal and working in the lab is a stepping stone to help me get on the right track with my business.

Working in an office though had me itching to do something with horses in the meantime until I graduate so I started looking around for part-time horse jobs.

I found a farm looking for a trainer to teach lessons and to lease their barn for trainers who have their own business. I jumped on it right away and started my business. My business is part-time for now until I graduate college. In 2023 it’ll be open full time. I’m currently teaching beginner lessons and looking to take on one training horse at a time.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not. Figuring out taxes, budgets, and scheduling has been a learning process. Juggling a full-time job, college, and starting up a business has been a lot but it’ll be worth it because horse training is my dream.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business is a horse training and riding lesson service. I teach beginners how to halter, lead, groom, tack, and ride horses. I am known for natural horsemanship, trail riding, and western style of riding. I am currently learning how to do Cutting because my goal is to be a professional cutting trainer. What sets me apart from other trainers is that I am all about the horses’ wellness and what is most natural to a horse. I am currently taking on colts to start or horses who need tune-ups.

Any big plans?
I am looking forward to going full time in 2023, taking on more training horses and clients who will buy their own horse and continue to learn with me and their personal horses. I am planning in the next 5 years to buy my own farm and move my business as well.
