Daily Inspiration: Meet Lexi Rene

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexi Rene. 

Hi Lexi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hello, my name is Lex and I am the owner of Lexx Designs Marketing Services. I started my business in 2016.   

I have been designing since 2007 with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and other Adobe applications. I attended Oakland Technical Campus in Wixom, MI for a Visual Imaging course for 2 years outside of attending high school, which motivated my creative skillset. 

I have always had a creative bone in my body and I believe that came from my mother, who use to always draw or color on my and my brother’s birthday cards and such. In 2014 decided to take my graphic design passion serious by attending Full Sail University (Winter Park, FL) to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Design. 

While working full time I decided to take on small design jobs while finishing up school. Between 2016-2018 I was working a full-time job, 2 part-time jobs, finishing up my degree, and trying to start my new graphic design business. I had a lot on my plate but I departed my well-paying job in 2017 and took a leap of faith and began growing my online-based graphic design company. 

In March 2018 I finally graduated with a degree in the field I am most passionate about! 

I have been honored to be instructed by some of the world’s top elite graphic designers who have worked with major brands such as Nike, Target, Disney, WWE, and more! 

I am known as the faith-oriented, crazy creative, who is firm and fair with all of my clientele. I am personable yet professional and I will pull the best out of you and push you to your greatest potential, whether it’s a simple idea you have in mind or a business you are looking to start up. I believe that I am full of great knowledge and resources about graphic design and branding and I am looking forward to connecting with so many other great entrepreneurs! 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Entrepreneurship is not easy at all! I believe in being transparent with those who ask me if this was or is a smooth road. If you have ever heard the saying “you old life will cost you your new life” PLEASE BELIEVE IT! Lol but with anything in life nothing is ever easy, I can be honest and say I want to quit every single day but I keep going because of the visual and goal I have in mind. A few struggles I will speak on that I have faced in entrepreneurship would be lack of knowledge, life adjustments, and discipline. 

Lack of knowledge- when I decided to take on graphic design full time I had absolutely no idea what I was doing! I had a friend who owned a hair company and hair salon and every time I went for my appointment she would say “Lex why are you not using your God-given talent to make money” and to be honest I was scared! I didn’t have enough faith in myself to trust my talent. I had no knowledge about running my own business. I just knew I was not longer set for a 9-5 corporate job. So, for me, I’ve been faith walking and God has been carrying me ever since. I would advise those who are in entrepreneurship to make sure you know the business world! It’s a tough world and it will eat you up and spit you out, ONLY IF YOU LET IT! I would advise those to make sure you gain as much knowledge as you can about funding your business, proper licensing, suppliers, vendors, and more! educate yourself so you can have the wisdom and confidence to run your business. 

Life adjustments- Let’s be honest, Life Happens! and when you are running a business life happens FAST! A struggle I faced was adjusting to the new life style that I’ve chosen which was entrepreneurship. I had to miss out on many things due to me working late nights, crazy hours to perfect my craft, many of my friends and family did not understand the lifestyle. I can honestly say it also gets lonely when you are trying to get to the top with running a business. I advise the to connect with like-minded individuals who understand your temporary struggles and who will motivate you and share somewhat of the same goal as you. 

Lastly, Discipline.! this is still a challenge for me! you have to be discipline in all areas of life if you ever want to succeed! after many years I have finally broken down and got a hold of my time management and organizing my personal life and business life. There will be many times where laziness comes around but remaining discipline will get you far.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
One thing I have learned from the Covid-19 Crisis is that life changes and it changes fast!! We see that time waits for no one and in the end, life still goes on. I’ve seen how supplies and such have inflated their pricing, I’ve seen how much of a need-based service such as graphic design is in high demand with many left with no choice but to start their business, and I’ve also learned a valuable lesson in time. During the whole quarantine segment our country faced I was able to take time for ME! prior to the pandemic I was running non-stop with no break so I was glad I was able to take a breather.
