Meet Amanda Holub

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Holub. 

Hi Amanda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always been creative and it is a dream of mine to start my own business and be self-sustainable. While I am not yet to my goal, I am well on the way! I started Brick Fox Designs, LLC in 2020 during the heart of the pandemic. I taught myself simple wire-wrapping and started making jewelry. Mainly focusing on crystal necklaces, I kept honing my skills – sinking deep into video tutorial rabbit holes and creating new and unique things. As an avid rockhound & beachcomber, I love finding things from the Great Lakes on my local travels and incorporating them in my products. I am always aching to learn more and try out new ideas! I welcome any and all commissions loving each new challenge. I look forward to vending this year at farmer’s markets and events around SE Michigan alongside other amazing local artists. Building my business slowly online and with the help of some local shops, I have been steadily gaining traction and expanding my collection to include things like wreaths, earrings, ethically-sourced bone jewelry, and more! 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly, the biggest struggle with business these days in my opinion is online presence. I understand why people hire others to do their social media work – it takes me longer to take photos, measurements, and post all over every platform than it does to create the actual product in some cases! So I would say time – I wish there were more waking hours in the day to do all the things for each piece and still have some time left to cook a nice dinner! 

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Brick Fox Designs mainly focuses on creating unique handcrafted jewelry, accessories, and home decor. I incorporate as much ethically-sourced natural materials in all my works as possible, tying everything back to the earth. I love using mosses, dried plants, found stones, and bones to create a personal experience for everything made. Each piece is carefully created in a positive space with good intentions and I hope my customers are able to feel the love put into their purchase. 

What makes you happy?
Happiness is curling up warm with a cup of tea next to my dog after a long hike. It’s singing my heart out to David Bowie while playing my guitar. It’s being totally silly with my partner dancing in the kitchen while we cook dinner. It’s waking up early on your day off and just sitting peacefully in the quiet watching the sunrise. Honestly, the little things in life are what makes me happy and I am grateful for each moment, grateful for each sweet soul, landscape, creature, and grateful that I get to experience it all. Maybe I’m a cheap date but I would trade a Rolex for the smell of fresh-cut grass any day!
