Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Green.
Hi Ryan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I began dancing when I was three years old and continued through my teenage years before enrolling in a dance program at City Dance at Strathmore, Bethesda, MD. I studied modern and jazz and was a member of the hip-hop conservatory. I was the founder of Team SAVAGE – a local dance group. This group went on to gain notoriety and became an internet sensation, and received a sponsorship from Vlado Footwear. I continued dancing throughout high school and competed and performed locally and nationally at notable venues (The Filmore, Howard Theatre, Apollo Theatre, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music).
I became recognized as one of the top freestyle dancers and won many competitions on major platforms. This includes being the winner of Battlefest DC King of the Streets. Along with numerous videos netting over 10 million views. I was a featured contestant on Season 15 of Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance” and was a Red Bull Dance Your Style finalist in Washington, DC, and Las Vegas, NV. As a visual recording artist, my work integrates cinematography and dance to captivate audiences and bring something new to the dance world.
In 2020, I began doing ministry through dance and currently own an agency for Christian creatives called Anointed MVMNT.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road. Along the way, close friends and family doubted me and they did not take me seriously when I started. Also, when I left Maryland and went to New York, I literally couched surfed. I had no place to call home and had to figure out from day to day how I was going to survive in such a big city.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a visual recording artist specializing in film and dance. I am known for my cinematic content. I am most proud of having my audience see through the artistic lens of my imagination. What sets me apart is that my content is not aimless, as you will always receive a message from what is produced.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Unfortunately, the dance industry is suffering from a lack of quality content. This is the reason why I am so passionate about changing the landscape of the way that dance is perceived and distributed.
