Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Newton.
Hi Brittney, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Where do I begin? It all started in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic. After my grandfather passed away in July of 2020, I was feeling unfulfilled. The feeling of being lost almost took over and I had to find something to make me feel whole again. I had been diagnosed with depression in June and if I didn’t do something to shake that feeling of despair, I didn’t think I was going to make it. I’ve always been interested in modeling, but I thought I was too short. I’m 5’0 feet, 5’1 on a good day. But, one day I said let’s do it and see what happens! I took my portfolio pictures with Q11 in August, and I landed my first booking in September.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Career-wise, yes. I stayed booked when I’m actively working. But mentally, no. I went through the worst depression in 2021. I had never felt so low in my life. I stopped taking bookings at the end of January and didn’t book again until October. I was at a point where I didn’t see the purpose of my life and I didn’t want to see it. I wanted to die. On top of that, I fell ill at the beginning of October. I had to have emergency gallbladder removal surgery and I had no idea how sick I was until it got really bad. Maybe the surgery was what I needed to snap me back into who I was because, after that, I found my lust for life again.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a plus-size model, brand ambassador, mental health advocate, and education enthesis. I specialize in making my clients’ brands POP! I have a look that isn’t common but is relatable. I’m short but have a bigger bust line and butt for someone my size. I want women of all sizes to feel confident and comfortable with who they are. Plus size women are more than a fantasy, we are more than BBW’s, we are beautiful women that deserve to be treated like Queens.
I’m known for working with a lot of plus-size boutiques, that’s where the bulk of my bookings come from. I work with Plus Size Boss Babes boutique, as well as Swank A Posh just to name a few.
I am very proud of the lane that I have created for myself. I come from a corporate background; I’ve worked within the automotive industry off and on for the past 5 years and I earned my MBA in 2019. I love being able to have my career and still have the creative outlet of modeling. I recently creative directed my first project which is called This is Personal. In this project, I capture my journey with depression in a very beautiful way. I turned something that was so supposed to be so ugly into something that was beautiful. The project can be found on my website.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
To manifest whatever is that you want. If you want it, speak it into existence. It will happen.

I truly enjoyed this article. I actually know this young lady but personally but I know her I worked with her mom. She is encouraging to me being and older woman full figured and tetter tottering with depression as well. But it has taught me a few things and made me seek out answers.
