Meet Gro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gro.

Hi Gro, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started making rap music as a kid. I was a daydreamer in class and easily bored. Music was the only way I could express myself freely and vent without shackles. It started as a hobby and just something to take my mind off my situation. As I got older, I took it more seriously, but then in 2019, I found myself enjoying R&B more. So, I started making my switch over to and when my son was born, I put my foot on the gas.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve had many struggles in my journey. I was raised in a small city with not many opportunities or encouragement for creators. I struggled to get the recording equipment when I was just starting. Some years down the line I would join different music cliques, but they would dissipate either from lack of passion or internal problems between people. In 2017 I lost a lot of passion for a period of time when grandfather passed, he was the man that made me feel like I could do anything. He gave me strength and courage, and it took my a year or so to find it again to get back regular.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I make r&b/rap music. More specifically I make songs for the late-night drive home, I call it car therapy music. Most of my music is centered around relationships and an alternative lifestyle. I’ll either make songs for the purpose of escapism or for others to vicariously live through me. I also make songs dealing with the dark side of relationships so the listener has someone to say what they’re afraid to say/ doesn’t know how to say for themselves. I want my music to speak for you and speak to them and vice versa. I mostly known for my vibey songs and hooks such as in my songs “616 AM Interlude” and “Juss A Moment”. I am most proud of the projects I put together and the storyline within them such as my project “*JADED*”. What sets me apart from other is the fact that my music is honest. I don’t say anything in my music I haven’t experienced myself so my music is more open and relatable. I also wrote with a mix of poetry and raw free thought. I’m not afraid to say my flaws and write the ugly truth of human nature.

How do you define success?
Success for me is to reach a worldwide audience and have my art recognized. Money to me is just a bonus and something that can make my art higher quality and reach a bigger scale.
