Hi Amal, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Blinded by crippling trauma after witnessing the unforeseen loss of my brother, my serene childhood and world as I knew it, rapidly collapsed into a perpetual state of desolation. Deaf, mute, and blind, I was incapable of envisioning a life, let alone a future, where I would exist as a single entity, without my role model and confidante. Until this day, I vividly recall the magnitude and heaviness of the emotional burden my mother carried following the catastrophic incident.
Overwhelming solace, as I walked into the salon, hand in hand with my mother. For me, time stopped. From the moment we entered, she was lavished and pampered like royalty. I observed her sorrows shed with every move of her stylist, and I felt it in every atom of my body. This was it; my calling. To attain a superpower unlike any other; the ability to interact with clients on a physical, mental, and emotional level, without any judgment or reservation.
Since then, I became a certified cosmetologist with specialty in Color, Extensions, and Brazilian Blowout treatments; and since style is ever-evolving, I made a commitment to lifelong continuing educational courses. With hundreds of hours under my belt, I stand confident at the forefront of the newest techniques, to bring my clients the hottest and newest trends.
The culmination of that journey led to the birth of Millie & Maz Co., a place where we give our clients the gift of empowerment through transformation. We aim to be the place of birth of the new YOU filled with happiness, self-love, & confidence.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
This road has been as smooth as an unpaved potholed-filled road with speed bumps peppered throughout. Being in beauty school to actually being on a salon floor was two different worlds. Where school prepped me for the basics of passing tests and state certifications, and the salon world being an uncontrolled wild environment. While being on the floor I was faced with a fear of working up close and personal on people who trusted me to deliver their vision. I never had the opportunity to assist or shadow a professional hairstylist, there was a lot of mistakes (sorry past clients lol). However, these mistakes made me become stronger and more dedicated towards my ultimate goal. I improved my techniques, continued my advanced education, and built client relations. One of the biggest challenges in the beauty world is retaining loyal clients. I was left with the question of quantity or quality, and I chose quality overall. People tend to focus on quantity and obtaining fast money while sacrificing quality. Little do you know, in this industry, quality will create a successful career in the long run. Overall, nothing ever comes easy in any profession, but determination, hard work, and focus accelerated me and got me recognized, and shows people that I love what I do.

I’m a professional hairstylist who specializes in delivering a customized look to each individual who sits in my chair. My advanced training and education in hair extensions, Brazilian blowouts, and color corrections prepared me to tackle the most challenging cases and help achieve the desired look and meet my clients’ expectations.
I am proud of how much I have accomplished in my 11-year career and that debt is owed to my clients. I dedicated my life in this career to help my clients reach a certain look while maintaining the integrity and health of their hair.
I’d say the thing that sets me from others is the transparency I have with my clients. I make a promise to my clients to serve them at the highest level possible. I am committed to the process that focuses on the uniqueness of each client and tailoring the treatment to their specific needs in order to achieve a remarkable health-conscious transformation. I provide the confidence in my clients’ look so they can live it, love it, believe it, and be it. I’m here to celebrate them.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I believe this industry is stronger than ever and will continue to become stronger and grow in a positive direction. With all the talent and competition entering this field, stylists and clients together will improve this everlasting profession. We will see a shift in new state-of-the-art technology and techniques introduced to help assist the professionals in this field where they will be able to operate more efficiently and effectively. New trends will be introduced and collaborations will engage, allowing this industry to grow to incredibly new heights.
