Daily Inspiration: Meet Etim Eniang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Etim Eniang.

Hi Etim, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m a Graphic Designer from the Eastside of Detroit… born in the 7mile and hoover area. My parents always strived for me not be a product of my environment. So, growing up that was my goal. I was always a creative whether it was through fashion, art, or creative direction. It began in high school, always looking for new ways to express myself. I started off by photoshopping viral images, hand painting clothes, and customizing sneakers. The combination of all those things transcends into who I am today. After graduating from Saginaw Valley State University in 2019, I began my journey of being a freelance Full-time graphic designer. Things quickly picked up and I began to design for many local brands, music artists, and social media influencers.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely wasn’t the smoothest road. Luckily, I had made a quite a bit of connections throughout my life. So, it wasn’t hard getting my work out there for people to see it. I believe that most of the challenges come from myself. The possibility of failure is something that I always think about. What if a design isn’t good enough? Is the design understandable? Does it have longevity. Questions like those constantly echo through my design process. Which to me feels healthy…with me questioning myself, I feel that when I do release my art I feel as if it is up to par.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Currently, I am a freelance Graphic designer/Clothing Designer. I’m known for being an overall creative. A lot of my work started with working with rappers. I’ve done a lot of work for two of my favorite artists BabyFaceRay and Veeze. Through work, I was able to make their visions of their music become physical. We continue to work till this day, whether it’s art or tour Merch. I’ve also been working with my Friend Demetrius Harmon, he’s a creative who created the brand “You Matter”. We work hand to hand all the time, creating his social media campaigns, clothing drops, lookbooks, and documentaries. It’s always a good time working with him because I’m able to use new skills and push myself to new limits. It’s so much work that I’ve done in a short amount of time that I’ve been freelance artist for many brands and artists in the city of Detroit

My main focus recently has been on my own brand “Eniang” pronounced Any-Ang. The brand is a representation of myself, what I want to wear, and messages that I want to send to people. The masses has been very supportive to my brand so far. Getting sales quickly from all over, that’s motivation to keep going harder. I’m currently working on more clothes now to release in February.

How do you define success?
I feel like success is the achievement of something that you have been trying to do. So, it’s many levels to it. It can be long or short-term. To each person, success is measured differently. If you make goals and complete them, to me that’s success.
