Meet Nicole Dingman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Dingman.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Absolutely! I’ve always been drawn to the arts! Photography quickly became a way for me to experience life. I started with 4-H youth fairs participating in the still exhibit competitions. I continued on through high school taking photography classes and bringing my little point and shoot camera with me everywhere I could. It wasn’t a question for me to pursue my associate’s in Fine Arts & Photography at college. I had a lot of support from family, friends, and professors who encouraged me to challenge myself. After college, I dove right into the field, second shooting for other photographers who seemed to have it figured out. It’s been a snowball effect since then! I love networking and making new friends, and I’m not shy about creative shoots I’d like to collaborate on. I now have the opportunity to work with some amazing people! Be it weddings, family sessions, branding, or just creative fun, I plan to continue expressing myself and capturing life through my lens.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh no, there are always struggles to overcome running your own business! Learning to juggle client communication, and marketing has been a challenge. There’s also time management, branding, new equipment, and any day of challenges! I roll with the punches though, and I love a good challenge.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I would say I’m MOST known for my wedding images. My style is more editorial than photojournalistic and I love a good detail shot! I edit with bold and bright colors. I do a lot of branding work and family sessions as well and love how those shoots change in location and content. I’m most proud of my creative shoots. Sometimes a song or experience will inspire me and it gives me some time to just let loose and create. There aren’t any expectations other than self-expression so it’s really a “no rules” experience. So far I’ve shot or modeled in shoots with themes like, “Sirens Song,” “Mad-Max,” “Corpse Bride,” “90’s Vapor,” Desert Dreams,” and a fun “I need Space” shoot that was published in a Vegas fashion magazine. I get a chance to work with makeup artists, hairstylists, fashion stylists, and videographers in an environment where we can all just express ourselves. It’s really cool and definitely a favorite. If you want to check out my creative shoots you can find them under the “Creative Outlet” story highlight on my Instagram!

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I’ve had several mentors! My professors at GRCC and my friends and family who have humored me and my creative ideas. I remember one college assignment I asked a friend to stand, in the dead of winter, in a pond. Without any hesitation she jumped right in for me with nothing but the promise of a great photo and a hot cup of coca after. (That’s true love.) I’ve had professors stay after hours to help me fine-tune ideas or try new edits. I have friends/colleagues who help create outfits for shoots, and willing to meet up at all hours to help the vision come to life. Of course, there’s my family as well helping me in every possible way. We’re all definitely a collective success and I appreciate each and every one of them.
