Today we’d like to introduce you to Brielle Jaglowski and Michaela Cosgrove. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Brielle Jaglowski and Michaela Cosgrove are the two artists that make-up Brush & Bark. We are both from Grand Rapids, MI and have been friends since high school. We created our business together during the beginning of the pandemic in June 2020 after independently selling art for 1.5 years. Our art reflects our admiration for all of the natural wonders of Michigan. We hope it sparks joy in others, educates both young and old, and fosters respect for the precious environments we live in.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With no prior business training, there was a big learning curve in the beginning for both of us in terms of pricing, setting up a website, and other logistics. We learned a lot from other local artists; including receiving excellent recommendations for local printers and other suppliers so we could keep our business as locally-sourced and sustainable as possible!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Brush & Bark specializes in hand-crafted fine art products inspired by the beauty of Michigan. We use watercolor paints to create one-of-a-kind original paintings, stickers, greeting cards, and more. We love featuring native wildlife and plants and iconic landmarks like lighthouses along the Great Lakes. We are known for our field guide-style art prints and plethora of animal stickers!
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
We’ve learned the importance and joy of connecting with other artists and the local community at the various markets we’ve vended at throughout the years. It is a very special community and we’ve learned so much from everyone we’ve met!
