Exploring Life & Business with Melissa Stuberg of Heart and Hands In Home Care

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Stuberg.

Hi Melissa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
To start from the beginning… It was July of 1999 when I told my dad I was going to start my own company, without skipping a beat he asked, “What do you have to lose?” (He didn’t even ask what kind of business). This is special to me; first because he is no longer here on earth and secondly because it is my motivation. There was that much confidence within my dad that he knew whatever it is I was going to do would be great! In the beginning, all the work was performed by me 🙂 As the time went by others started to help. Each year there were goals set up for growth purposes. We created working relationships, community respect, and contracts to help get the word out of who we are and what we do. I still have my hands in and on all aspects of the company. To this day we strive to continue to do what was done at the beginning.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A struggle has been with this company needing to have an individual that can make decisions 24/7. At the present time this is delegated but prior it was hard to separate work from business with one person being solely responsible.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Heart and Hands In Home Care?
We provide all-inclusive care for an individual who signs up for services. This includes but is not limited to nursing, caregiving, transportation, lawn care, snow removal, and home remodifications. We are known within the community for taking on challenges like extensive wound care, 24-hour care, rural cases, transportation, and emergency staffing. In 2021, we accepted an employer recognition award for exceptional community partnership. We are most proud of providing the extra special touch. We strive to create an environment that is “family” like. Heart and Hands In Home Care’s mission is to provide personalized, high-quality care on an as-needed or continual basis in the comfort of an individual’s home. We have created a business that we believe in and choose for our own family members.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
We service 7 counties which include Ottawa, Kent, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, Lake, and Mason. The diversity is the best part. The least would be the distance between.
