Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Ashlea Clark.Ā
Dr. Clark, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi Iām Ashlea š (she/her/hers)Ā
I graduated with honors from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 2016. Where I was chosen to do an additional internship at St. Maryās college treating student-athletes before I moved to Michigan. I miss the California weather, but love being a Michigander and especially love living in Ypsi! I graduated with a BS in philosophy and a minor in gender studies from the University of Central Arkansas in 2011. Not long after my undergrad education, I realized my plan to attend ātraditionalā medical school was not for me (I disliked hospitals greatly, objected to the overprescribing of medication, and was underwhelmed with most physicianās bedside manners and listening skills). Thankfully chiropractic found me.
Since Iāve been in practice, I pride myself on providing the highest standard of safe and effective patient care. My mission is to help you understand the cause of your symptoms, correct it, and teach you how to prevent it in the future. I am working towards finding the perfect balance of research-supported medical treatment that is natural, safe, and effective; trying to create a space for medical treatment in a non-sterile and healing environment. When I am not working, I love spending time with my wife and our six fur-babies. I also enjoy playing golf, softball, making candles, playing CoD (Call of Duty) or animal crossing, and nerding out on Harry Potter or anime.
Would you say itās been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges youāve faced along the way?
Oh, there have been struggles. After realizing that I did not want to become a medical doctor, I felt very lost. For two years I did a lot of soul searching, shadowing, and research.
Additionally, during my 9th quarter of schooling (the one where I was taking a full class load, just began clinic, and was preparing for my first board exam), I lost my father due to alcoholism. He was my person. Despite his illness, his death was sudden and unexpected. Thankfully I had the support of two wonderful professors and an amazing cohort that supported me and helped me cope with the loss.
Thanks ā so what else should our readers know about The Alignment Studio?
I am just your neighborhood chiropractor. I use hands-on muscle techniques, manual manipulation, and physiotherapy to help people get out of pain without the use of medication. I work with people from all walks of life and at every age. In my practice, the focus is not only on addressing symptoms but in finding the root cause of the problem. Additionally, there is focus on addressing mental health and stress components that affect the body and our pain responses. I pride myself on being authentic and transparent with my clients, explaining to them in detail about what we are doing, the purpose behind my methods, and tailoring each care plan to the client, not the other way around. I also believe that chiropractic care should be affordable to all, preventative care and being pain-free should not be a luxury. This is the reason why I pride myself on not selling expensive care plans like many DCs. My goal as a healthcare provider is getting my clients back to their pain-free life as quickly as possible, while teaching them how to prevent reoccurrence and future injury. Healthcare should be individualized and based on trust as well as research and education. It should also be safe, kind, and affordable.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I am pretty much an open book, I also talk a lot, just ask me anything. There are no real surprises here.
