Today we’d like to introduce you to Coyé Tyler.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up with a passion for art. My uncle and grandad are professional artists and I grew up fascinated with their art styles. I began creating and generating art of my own. I create illustrations, digital art, and even made-up campaign ads. I mention my artistic side because all of this led to why I create music. I use making music as a way to escape and venture out, all while staying true to my thoughts and expressing myself on paper. But it was when I rapped my lyrics to other people, that I realized my work should be put out for people to hear. I realized that there might be people out there with the same thoughts and feelings that I have. Fast-forwarding to who I am today, I can truly say I have grown into the title of “Artist” and I will continue to connect with people who can relate to my music. So, they won’t feel alone.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been easy I have gone through a lot in the past, one thing that I was struggling with was Crohn’s Disease. I was diagnosed with that when I was 14. I was in constant pain; my legs would hurt so bad to the point that I couldn’t walk as much. Attending school and hanging out with friends was hard. I was 16 when I went to University of Michigan medicine and they prescribed medicine that I take to this day. With the medicine, I instantly felt better and I was able to walk with zero pain. In the midst of all that I was able to write so much, I would write about my pain and turn my pain into passion. I’d like to say to people that whatever you may go through always stay strong and keep your mind sharp, there’s always light at the end of the tunnel. My song “Change” will speak on the topic of staying strong and never fading away. I’ve worked with “Notorious M” and a very talented singer that will help me convey a beautiful message to people who may be struggling.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an artist; I specialize in the art of creating music and digital illustration. I’m most known for my music. I am most proud of how much I grew as a person and as an artist. I’ve been through a lot and I am extremely grateful to be able to share my creativity with people.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
When seeking guidance from another person, as a mentor or role model, make sure they have the same mindset that you have. I say this because if you’re not cautious of who you seek advice from, they could take advantage of you. Trust yourself and trust your process. I network with people through friends and family, and sometimes through social media. These things are amazing ways and tools to use when trying to expand your audience as well as expand your client intel.
