Meet Jason Piper of Build Better Sleep

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Piper.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started to Build Better Sleep when I realized that there was a good number of people that were struggling with their sleep, but there was not much in the way of services for them if they did not have a medical condition causing it. I used to burn the candle at both ends averaging 4-5 hours of sleep, then when my wife and I had kids my sleep was even more erratic.

Needless to say, my health and mood took a dive that was not only affecting me but those around me. I took it upon myself to learn more about sleep and the components that create a high-quality sleep experience and avoid insomnia.

I became certified as a sleep consultant and used the tools I learned on myself to improve my ability to fall asleep and wake up with energy. I take a holistic approach to sleep, looking at nutrition, stress levels, daily behaviors, and mindset to name a few.

Now I work with clients online that are dealing with insomnia and are looking for a more personal experience in solving the sleep issues that they are not getting with their primary care doctor.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. Just as I was about to really launch Covid hit and my kids were moved to virtual school. This took up most of my time during the day so I had to put the business on pause.

I was wanting to work with businesses as well to offer their employees sleep education and support, but with Covid-19, budgets were put on hold as well. Now, I am back up and running putting together a few different programs.

We’ve been impressed with Build Better Sleep, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Build Better Sleep is a sleep consulting company. I work with individuals who feel like they have tried everything to try and get some sleep, but it is still elusive. I have found when people have insomnia they look for a magic pill or device to solve their problem. Unfortunately, it is not that simple, especially for insomnia.

When a person comes to work with me, I use the analogy that we have to remodel their sleep. What they have been doing or trying in the past was just patching up holes. The house is still falling apart. I help them strip their sleep down to the studs and we rebuild it stronger and more resilient than before.

What is different at Build Better Sleep is I work with each person to find their ideal sleep blueprint. Each of my clients has their own sleep story they tell themselves, their own sleep environment, and their own unique circumstances. This is why general sleep tips usually are not effective for insomnia. I look at stress levels, diet, nutritional deficiencies, neurotransmitters, sleep hygiene, and continue thinking outside the box for my clients.

My services are provided virtually with no need to come into an office.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I have started 2 companies in my lifetime. When you talk to people, they say that is a major risk that they are not willing to take. It never really registered in my brain that it was a risk. I just wanted to do it, so I came up with a plan and started doing it. It definitely has had ups and downs, but I am doing something that I love and making a difference in people’s lives.
