Daily Inspiration: Meet Andrea Fontana

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Fontana.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I always knew I wanted to help people feel better about themselves. It wasn’t until after college that I realized it would be in the beauty realm. After getting a B.S. in Human Biology, I decided to get my esthetician’s license as well. I realized how much I loved teaching people about taking care of their skin and applying makeup.

After working a few jobs in the beauty world, I realized that owning a business that allowed me to define the terms of my client interactions was the best route. I wanted to help anyone redefine what they thought of when they heard the word beauty. I started Andrea Fontana Beauty, LLC in October of 2017 and haven’t looked back. While I primarily focus on bridal makeup, I also love doing other special event makeup, teaching clients about skincare and makeup through lessons, and developing my community on social media.

I’m also extremely passionate about teaching others to feel less intimidated in the kitchen and how to incorporate secondhand living into their lives, so these two topics are also discussed on my Instagram and YouTube channel.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not always been a smooth road. The years leading up to starting my business were filled with long hours and hard work. I waited patiently for my moment until I felt like I had enough experience and knowledge to go out on my own. Entrepreneurship will always be a rollercoaster, regardless of the field you are in.

Especially in the beginning, it can be isolating not having coworkers and difficult to know if you are making the right decisions. You also have to be able to motivate yourself to keep going on days when you’re tired or you get knocked down. I found that it’s really important to get to know others in your community and support each other.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The bulk of my work is in bridal makeup but I also do a lot of special event makeup as well. I specialize in natural airbrush makeup artistry so my clients hire me because they really want to make sure they feel like themselves on their wedding day or other special moments. My goal is to give my clients a beautiful experience so that they not only look beautiful but feel beautiful.

I tell each and every bride, that I want them to feel like they can trust me like a great friend, and I really mean that. I believe everyone who is involved with your wedding day execution, should be trustworthy and help you create a wedding day that feels like you, so their experience from start to finish is very important to me.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
While my family and friends have been the biggest supporters from day one, I cannot stress enough that I truly have the best clients in the world. So many of my past brides and clients refer their loved ones to me, which is the greatest compliment you can give.

From leaving me reviews to sharing my work, and social media, I love that I’m able to stay in touch with my clients and continue to get to know them, years after their big day. You are more than just a name when you become a client of mine. I was once told that I would struggle through this industry because I ‘cared too much about my clients and that eventually, it would get too exhausting’.

I knew that it was my greatest asset and that it made me feel so happy, so I made a decision early on to always care ‘too much’. My clients are my everything and I’d be nowhere without them.
