Community Highlights: Meet Andy Makar of Kapoof Entertainment

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andy Makar.

Hi Andy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
My interest in magic started with magic a hobby when my dad let me play with a few tricks he kept in a shoebox. A Fisher Price magic showcase, a Blackstone magic set, and a many trips to the library led to developing a lifelong interest in magic.

At thirteen, I visited my first magic shop which led to more magic books, magic conventions, and meeting many other talented Metro Detroit magicians. Throughout high school, college, and in my professional day job (Information Technology), I’ve always had magic as a “side hustle”.

Performing magic shows as a kid and a young adult helped develop confidence and strong public speaking skills. Magic also served as a great ice breaker to entertain business professionals as well as my own kids. Birthday parties, family gatherings, cocktail parties, restaurants, and comedy shows provided many opportunities to entertain and bring a smile to others.

Today, I’m a Rochester, Michigan magician who entertains families and kids throughout Metro Detroit primarily entertaining on the weekends. I’m active in our local International Brotherhood of Magicians RING 22 in Clawson, Michigan, and enjoy learning a new trick or two when I’ve got the time!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
COVID was and still is an obstacle! During the initial COVID outbreak, magicians were non-essential as families and businesses stopped having gatherings. Without an audience, the need for magic shows was extinguished for nearly a year.

However, magicians are a creative bunch and magic acts switched from in-person to virtual shows. Even as the COVID statistics improved, magic acts were modified to include face masks and limit audience participation with magic wands and funny props. Imaging asking a spectator to pick a card when they don’t know where those cards have been or delivering a comedic line with a mask hiding the non-verbal cues.

Magic is a visual art best experienced LIVE!

Fortunately, vaccinations are available and magic shows are back in demand!

We’ve been impressed with Kapoof Entertainment, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Kapoof Entertainment is a kids’ party magician and birthday party entertainer located in Rochester, Michigan. We provide magic shows and magic classes to Rochester, Rochester Hills, Birmingham, Troy, Lake Orion, Auburn Hills, and Metro Detroit, Michigan locations. Kapoof Entertainment specializes in magic shows for kids and entertains families and children throughout the Metro Detroit Michigan area.

I’m proud BOTH parents and kids enjoy the “Grate” Andy and the Magic Fun Man show. The magic show entertains both adults and kids although the majority of the show is targeted toward the kids. The parents like the show because they see how much fun their kids are having and the tricks amuse and entertain everyone.

If you are looking for a magic show for a birthday party or a magician for kids’ party, give Kapoof Entertainment and the “Grate” Andy a call!

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
Support live entertainment where you can! COVID has dampened live entertainment for the moment, but live entertainment provides a unique experience you can’t find on Netflix or on YouTube.

If adults, parents, or kids are interested in the Art of Magic, I encourage them to visit the local Detroit Magic Club (http://www.detroitmagic.club) in Clawson, Michigan. We share, collaborate, and teach fellow magicians and hobbyists the latest tricks, sleights, and magic news!

Of course, if you’re looking for a Magician in Rochester, Michigan or the metro Detroit area, give me a call or contact me at http://www.magicfunman.com
