Daily Inspiration: Meet Trino

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trino.

Hi Trino, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Paw Paw, MI an hour from “The Magic Capital of the World” (Colon, MI). I started attending Magic Week and the Abbott’s Magic Get Together when I was 12 and at this convention learned magic and business skills from top professionals. This led to performing at house parties, street performances, schools, and other events in Southwest, Michigan through middle and high school. On Tuesday’s I would perform table to table at La Cantina in Paw Paw for spaghetti night. I went to Central Michigan University and received my degree in Event Management while still continuing to perform for a variety of events around the state.

Now based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, I produce and perform in a monthly show called Amaze and Amuse at Wealthy Theatre and entertain audiences at corporate events, churches and theatres. I’m also currently producing a convention for magicians called WonderBash and working on several other projects to be announced in the coming weeks. When not working I enjoy pottery, attending performances, and traveling with my wife, Ashley, and hairless cat, Cannoli.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The pandemic was difficult. I went longer without doing a show that I ever had since I was 12. It required me to adapt and think long-term on business and personal goals. I performed virtual shows in my living room which meant setting up a makeshift studio and completely changing the show to be done through a screen. I learned to focus on my mental health and start taking better care of myself. The phrase “There’s no business, like show business” has resonated with me a lot lately. Show business is weird and so exciting at the same time. People looking in from the outside can’t fully understand.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Comedy Magician and Event Producer

Amaze & Amuse every month at Wealthy Theatre

Producing WonderBash a new kind of convention for magicians that’s more than tricks here in Grand Rapids. There are lectures and discussions for magicians who will be coming into Grand Rapids from around the country and 3 shows that are open to the public at Wealthy Theatre. Performers have been seen on America’s Got Talent, Masters of Illusion, and performing in theatres around the world.

Performing for private events and creating lasting memories for people that are talked about long after the show is over. I care about people and I’m proud when I can make a genuine connection that leads to discussion and growth.

Performed for Gene Simmons (KISS), Lou Holtz (Legendary College Football Coach), Lee Brice (Billboard Chart Topping Country Artist), Kevin Nealon (SNL, Weeds), and many others

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
1. It’s not what you say but how you say it

2. There’s few things in your life that you can control

3. You’re alive, you’re loved, you have a purpose.

4. Be kind to others

5. Support young performers and artists. Go to their events, watch them perform, purchase their artwork. Encourage them.
