Meet Tee Two Times

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tee Two Times

Hi Tee Two Times, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I was supposed to be a pharmacist. That’s what I told my family I was going to do before I headed off to Howard University for college. I majored in Chemistry, did the research programs, and even took a job as a pharmacy technician at Walgreens. By my senior year, I had gotten study materials for the PCAT and had picked out my pharmacy school, my recommenders, and my roommate, too! I was ready to take that leap! So then, how did I end up in media and music? There was just this nagging feeling that there was something else for me.

I had always handled my business in school but I also wanted to be part of life’s “show”. I danced, ice skated, twirled a baton, played instruments, competed in pageants… all of it! It then became my mission to figure out where I fit in the entertainment world. I enjoy music, connecting with people, and striking up good conversations with whoever would listen. Radio seemed like the perfect fit! So, in my LAST semester at HU, I convinced a professor to let me take his broadcast performance course, talked my way into an internship at 96.3 WHUR FM, and took up a show on our college station, WHBC. I LOVED IT! One day I realized that my spirit felt more at home when I was in the radio station than it ever did in a lab or a pharmacy. I was sold.

After graduation, I came back home to Detroit (with my Chem Degree in tow) and wasn’t entirely sure where to start so I called my favorite station. I called the people at Hot 1075 so much I won concert tickets! Big Greg was on air that day and he told me what I needed to do. I interned some more, this time with Bijou Star and later with DJ AngelBaby who taught me so much, including how to DJ. I went to Specs Howard School of Media Arts to broaden my skill set and the rest is history! After 4 years of learning, practice and persistence I finally cracked the mic for my own show at the same station as my mentors. It’s been quite the journey to this point and I’m only getting started!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The transition into radio did not go smoothly at ALL! I didn’t just apply for a radio job and get hired after I finished my media arts program. I actually applied to the station I was interning at five different times, alone! It took four years of proving and improving myself plus some campaigning from my mentors for me to get my chance on air. Facing that rejection and dealing with disappointment was a huge obstacle for me. My family initially disapproved of the career switch and the fact that getting started was not a swift process didn’t help my case. My own mentality has a bit of an obstacle as well. I’m a bit of a perfectionist but in this industry, done is better than perfect. I have had to stop beating myself up about the small things like stumbling over a word during a talk break or one of my social media posts getting low engagement. Understanding that consistency is key and that ALL things get better with time has been my saving grace.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In addition to being a Radio Personality, I am also a professional DJ, event host, geometry teacher, and vegan cookie baker. My life is always busy but it’s so much fun!

I’m grateful to be able to share that fun with others through what I do as a DJ and a host. Even though I’ve only been a DJ for a few short years, I’ve had the pleasure of DJ’ing at family events, corporate events, conventions, clubs, arenas, festivals, and on the radio. I’ve even been able to perform at events in partnership with brands like Walmart, Fashion Nova, and Footlocker to name a few. When I’m not playing the music, I love able to help create good energy in a room with my words. Helping people celebrate their moments both big and small are what I enjoy the most!

I also really enjoy food! I started a vegan diet in 2019 after my mother passed away. I was happy to be taking control of my health in a way that worked for me but I was hard-pressed to find vegan desserts that I thought tasted good. So, I started making them myself and Not Your Auntie’s Vegan Baked Goods was born. I’m so happy to have created something that I like and that everybody else can enjoy too! Business is growing and I’m creating new flavors in my head all the time. I can’t wait to see where God takes me on this part of my journey.

Teaching is one of my newest adventures. The job is challenging in more ways than one but watching my students learn and grow as people has been really rewarding. Not only am I teaching them, they’re teaching me too! I’m working in the classroom now to understand how I can be supportive of students in my city outside of the classroom later. I want to start a foundation in my mother’s honor that does just that, one day. She was a teacher too! I call my classroom “The Millionaires’ Club” and really emphasize that what we’re learning is so much more than geometry… we’re practicing life skills that will help us to build generational wealth. I want them to aspire to earn millions dollars and to help millions of people too.

I truly do some of everything, but if I’m known for anything at all, it’s the fact that I bring great energy with me wherever I go. I am humbled to be a light in this world and it’s not a job I take lightly. Whether I’m at a party, in the classroom, or simply baking cookies, I do everything with a love that people can feel and I take pride in that.

What matters most to you? Why?
Following the path God has for me and making my mother proud are what matter most to me. As Loretta Hull’s only child, I want nothing more than to honor her legacy through the establishment of my own. She was a woman of great faith in God and always loudly supported me in everything I did. I want to live in such a way that my grandchildren benefit from the prayers of my mother. While I can’t ever physically repay her for all of the sacrifices she made for me, I hope that my successes let her know that she did well. After her passing in October of 2018, I realized that she inspired me to Live a Better life, Love on my people in Better ways, and to Do More for others. So, as I live out these ideals, in whichever ways God lays them out for me, I #DoItForLoretta, and I hope my life inspires others to do the same.
