Today we’d like to introduce you to Ron Elliott Jr.
Hi Ron, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
My journey as a filmmaker started the day after I recovered from Covid-19. As I lied on what I thought was my death bed, I said to God, “If you let me make it through the night, I will start using my talents for a greater purpose asap.” I survived and began an internal journey about how I wanted and needed to spend my time to have the most impactful life. That reflection reminded me of my passion for creating.
I initially set out to write my third book. But after months of watching every streaming service available to mankind, I thought, “What if I make it a movie?” After a few weeks of research and a couple of months of documentary courses, I created a film proposal and pitched it to a friend that was an Emmy Award-winning producer to consider directing for me. He was blown away by my vision and the care I put into the proposal and immediately signed on. I followed that up by approaching uncle who is a Grammy-nominated composer, and he signed on as well to do the score.
I walked away from my lucrative real estate business to focus 100% of my time and energy on my film and I haven’t looked back. By the time you read this, we’ll be done with shooting and in the process of editing the movie.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road to writing and producing a film is definitely a rollercoaster ride. Covid presented quite a few challenges early due to the restrictions. There are scheduling issues. Budgeting. Contract issues. The hardest thing for me, still to this day is resisting the urge to chase the money I could be making rather than chasing purpose.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I consider myself a “CreativePreneur or Creative Executive”. I specialize in manifesting visions into reality. I am known for my ability to inspire, motivate, and create. I am most proud of my four daughters. They are definitely a chip off the old man’s shoulder. What set’s me apart from others is my ability to balance business and art. Most people either lean far to the artist side of things or far to the business side. I am able to keep a delicate handle on both sides of the coin.
What’s next?
My future is looking pretty bright! I am currently completing my first film. I will be releasing a web series in the near future and shooting a pilot for a unique talk show concept within the next few months.
