Life & Work with Simone Bryant

Today we’d like to introduce you to Simone Bryant.

Hi Simone, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
#MonesArt is a custom apparel and art business. A focus of mine has been to combine my love of art and paint to everyday fashion and street apparel. So, I specialize in tie-dye hats, crewnecks, and sweatsuits. I make it priority to have limited releases. I love to come up with different colorways and paint techniques on clothing that are unique. Check out my new art pieces too! Making 1 of 1 piece allows me to create unique items for people and let them embrace different styles I have made independently as if it was made for just them.

The plan for my brand is to support and spread black art. I can appreciate the history of my culture within art and the stories it can leave as our legacy. Art is true value to me. And at this point in my life, I am exploring my artistry in different mediums, whether it’s painting, designing, and even tattooing. Although I do create my own art, and merch now, my plan is far beyond my own promotion. I want to support the city of Detroit and the artists by running and promoting my own art shows and galleries one day.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not. Considering I also launched my online shop 2 months before the world shut down for the pandemic. Due to COVID-19, I was able to focus more on my businesses’ social accounts and marketing presence online. I was not consistent in posting or promoting my brand at all. But people have spent nothing but time during COVID shopping online. I knew I had to embrace this time frame to build a following online for #MonesArt. I also adapted to networking more in my hometown. Detroit is a center for good fashion trends and I took full advantage by participating in social distancing pop-up shops. Shipping has been a hard moment in the business as well because of the mail shortages. So, joining local pop-up shops provided a way for people to see my brand up close gave me the chance to expand #MonesArt.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in tie-dye hats, crewnecks, and sweatsuits. I make it priority to have limited releases. I am most proud of #MonesArt hoodies because they became the staple of my brand. I have made so many different tie-dyes and versions of this one hoodie. I believe it sets me apart from other because I want to add my painter’s hand to my apparel. Creating unique color combinations definitely set me apart.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Covid allowed me time. Time to find my peace, to spend close time with family, and time to see myself in the art world as well as apparel world. I thought of what mattered to me and what I can do to comfort others. I love art and I will always see myself in it. Whether I create art pieces, paintings, or clothes I want people to feel good having my items. With so much loss in Covid, I wanted to create an affordable brand to bring some peace while looking artsy.

Support Black Business. I have purchased several pieces of “MonesArt” and I have received so many Complements. And the Quality of the material is great. I will continue to support “MonesArt”. A young lady setting her Love of the Art World to a higher level.
