Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Balistreri.
Hi Nick, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Detroit Headers started as a couple of prizes we made for a promotion for one of my businesses DIYauto.com . The amount of interest was amazing and in 2017, I decided to start a separate company, DetroitHeaders.com. Through trial and error, and innovation with the process and components, the piece was developed. Then came branding, social media, advertising, the shippi
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The first couple years were very slow; by the end of 2019 we had made only 12 sets. From finding reliable work to consistent products and materials we have fought to deliver a quality art piece that is affordable. Thanks to all the feedback from customers, help, and interested parties, we have worked hard to listen and try to incorporate all the good ideas from people willing to share their opinions. We look forward to continually improving our products and exposing them to more and more people.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Detroit Headers makes customized wall art using faux deer skulls cast from a mold in-house along with automotive headers. These are perfect for someone looking for something different to hang in their space. They are great conversation pieces! We love experimenting with new headers and different themes to create products from one-of-a-kind to affordable wall hangings. What we are most proud of is creating a unique product that is affordable for our customers and delivering a quality piece in a timely fashion. I’m proud of our branding, attention to detail, and ensuring our customers are happy with their purchase.
I also find great satisfaction in giving back. With Detroit Headers, I’ve given to (rescue) Fuzzy Fawn Wildlife, The Wounded Warrior Project and the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization. My dream is as the company grows, I’ll be able to grow giving back to others.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I love browsing Instagram for inspiration and exposing my product to customers to get their feedback. Also, local art shows and meet and greets to gain more creativity from the art community. And mostly while creating the pieces, some things just pop into my head. I love this part which is totally separate from the challenges of running a business. It’s my “recess” during a busy day.
