Hidden Gems: Meet Megan Hardgrove of M. Pressions Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Hardgrove.

Hi Megan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello, so I have been running my business now since about 2015. I started out actually on “accident,” I guess one could say. I was going through a tough time being able to afford pictures for my son, so I decided to buy a camera on credit, and try to get photos of him that way. For a while, I was NOT good at photos at all, and not well thought out…. once I got my bearings, I had friends who would ask me to do small photoshoots with them, and over time I got better and better. Once I figured out, I had a talent for it, I would allow people to tell others I would take their photos, and then friends started to say: “Wow, you’re doing a lot and you aren’t being reciprocated for it, and that’s not fair to you and your time.” At this point, I got an official education in photography, for expertise. I also started to invest more into my craft, and what things I used for it… props, software, etc., and then I went into full-blown business mode.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I mean, I think everything has its up and downs, however, I do think that a lot of the downs were because I was not fully committed at times.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a lifestyle photographer, specializing mostly in children and families. However, I definitely dabble in passion projects as well. I feel like there are a good many photographers, and I don’t know that I like the term “sets me apart” because we are all so talented, but we do all have our own unique styles. I am most proud of being someone people feel comfortable around and comfortable referring to. That I take it seriously, that my passion still runs so true to my heart, and that for me… it’s about how they feel getting those pictures back.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I have… I have learned that memories are more important than ever.
