Meet Patrick Bush of Patman Droneography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Bush. 

Hi Patrick, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I’ve always had a passion for flight but knew I would never be able to be a commercial pilot because I’m color blind. The advancements in commercial UAV technology changed that for me. I got my first little $50 Hubson toy drone when I was about 16 and fell in love. Shortly after I upgraded to a DJI Phantom 3 Advanced. It was amazing what that drone was capable of, autopilot, auto takeoff, auto-landing. The thing would basically fly itself. 

I created a Facebook page “Patman Droneography” and it was a huge hit. People asking me left and right if I would take photos for them. This is where the real work began… complying with FAA Regulation. Luckily, I already work in the aerospace field and was familiar with the type and amount of research it took to comply with these regulations. So, I did all of the work necessary (registered the drone, took the part 107 test, created my own sole proprietorship, obtained my DBA, etc.) and it was ‘liftoff’ for Patman Droneography. The social media aspect has been a huge part of my business growth. The nice part about photography is that the work is the advertisement. 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
For the most part, it’s been pretty smooth. However, when I first started out, I would get very irritated seeing Realtors go out and buy a drone, and fly it for commercial purposes. After all the work I had done to do everything ‘by the books’ It took me quite a while to just accept the simple fact that people are going to break the law because they are not aware that a law exists. 

We’ve been impressed with Patman Droneography, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Patman Droneography is a locally owned Aerial Photography / Videography business. We specialize in real estate, weddings, construction, promotional videos, etc. Anything from Marketing to capturing a special memory, Patman can capture it from a unique perspective. What sets Patman Droneography apart from others is our ability to take projects to new heights. As far as branding goes, the tagline for Patman Droneography is “Get Above The Competition” it fits perfectly for the work I perform for many clients. One of the most important aspects of my company that I would love the readers to know is that projects are not only exceeding clients’ expectations but meeting all of the legal requirements of operating a drone commercially. 

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I believe that my ability to adapt and utilize the technology and social channels provided has been the most important characteristic to the success of Patman Droneography.
