Conversations with Brittany Chesney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Chesney.

Hi Brittany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Designing and planning events and parties have always been my passion. From a young age, I enjoyed the planning and design process as well as the memories that come along with special events. I was lucky to be very close to my grandma Gilmore and her and I shared a love for planning family gatherings and special occasions. Helping others has always been something I enjoyed and planning weddings and events goes hand and hand with that passion. Being involved in a couple’s most special day is something I will never get tired of. There is a true joy that comes from seeing others celebrate and create memories at events. After going back to school in 2014 I pursued my passion for events and completed a degree in event management. Having my own event planning business has always been my dream and something that seemed very distant and impossible at times. Believing in myself and really having a passion for events has always been a driving force in keeping me motivated. Losing my grandma in early 2019 really put life into perspective and I dove into making my dreams become a reality even more. Putting myself out there and making connections with other vendors in the industry really started to change things for me. The more effort I put in the more blessings I started to see. Now I am truly living my dream. I was able to stop working my 9-5 job to focus on my business full time at the start of 2021. To think that during a pandemic I used that time to work on myself and my dream to make it flourish still baffles me at times. I am grateful for every moment because I know how hard it has been to get here.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting your own business is never easy in my opinion. For me, I didn’t come from a family of business owners. In fact, I’m one of the first in my immediate family to start their own successful business. I have learned a lot along the way. I love to learn from others and take tips on what works and what doesn’t. I have learned that staying true to myself and my vision for my business is going to take me further than trying to copy and compare to others. At the end of the day, it comes down to making others feel happy, loved, and accepted and that’s how I hope to leave all of my clients feeling.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am owner and creative director of a full-service event planning company. We specialize in full-service wedding planning, style, and design plans, as well as wedding and event coordination services. We believe the magic is in the details and love to bring our clients’ visions to life. We are proud of the strong family ties and importance in celebrating the little moments that we bring to each of our events.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love living in Michigan and all of the wide range of opportunities that it brings for events. There are so many wonderful venues and spots for events that the options and creative ideas are endless. We are based in Lansing but service all of Michigan and beyond. I like that we are centrally located and not a far drive from many Great Lakes and beaches.
